i have two plants that have been flowering for 1 week (7th day is today). a fem purple wreck i had turned out to be just that...a girl! first hairs 3 days ago (ie. female sex). it was originally from seed flowered for 7 weeks w/ 230w of cfls. currently all plants under 600w digital hps ballast (90,000-95,000 lumens i believe). the hps is roughly 16in from the tops of the plants (may be a tad high).

the one that is NOT showing sex is a mystery strain i planted from seed...vegged under same light and for same length as the wreck. now under the 600w also. ph is stable at 7. stopped feeding veg nutes a week n a half before beginning flowering. they have NOT been given flowering nutes yet.

12/12 lighting schedule. havent been watered in about a week (but dont show signs of needing water) both in 5 gallon pots.

purple wreck is 14 in and mystery strain is at 17.5 inches. the mystery was a slow starter that popped above soil 4 days after the wreck...since the end of veg/beginning of flowering it has grown dramatically...a solid inch a day...the wreck doesnt keep up with it...sometimes as little as half inch of growth a day...the mystery once shot up 2 inches in one day.

why hasnt it showed sex yet? i was fearing it was a male because it was growing so quickly (a sign of a male) but since its taking so long to show im now thinking its a female (i would be incredibly happy if it was...that plant is a beast.) if its female i have to learn to clone (never bothered to learn) so i could keep it for a future grow.

Sounds like it's a Sativa dominant plant. They take longer to do everything, including flower. Either way, different strains show at different times - even individuals of the same strain can vary a bit. You shouldn't have stopped feeding them - the first two to three weeks in flower, is when they attain most of their height. Resume their veg nutes at half or quarter strength, depending on how well they've taken them - and begin flowering nutes.

you say veg nutes AND bloom nutes as in at the same time? im just asking because i've heard of stopping veg nutes (reducing in strength as well) right before flowering stage and not to give flowering nutes until the sex has been shown by the plants (granted the wreck already has shown but i been waiting on the mystery one before i begin feeding).

very well could be a sativa. its just a seed i found in some weed i bought like a year ago haha so i dont even remember what type of weed it was (other than a good/strong one...thats why i saved it when i found it...hoping to hit the jackpot. its a beast also in the sense that it never had a bad reaction to nutes...(the wreck did at one point) so i know the mystery one is more forgiving of error. its just grown and grown and grown. very healthy looking at that. im just REALLLLLLY hoping its a female.

Yep, both at the same time. I feed my plants like that until the day I chop - I don't even flush. My girls stay nice and green and healthy, until the day they die! lol Peek in my journal at them if you like, just updated yesterday. Link is in my sig. The reason you've heard to stop veg nutes, is because it's a commen misconception that it's "normal" for all your leaves to yellow and die before the end. Well - it isn't. Ever see dead looking plants like that in High Times? How about the pics posted on breeders' websites? Nope! The plants yellow and die, because people stop giving them the nutes they need. It's the nitrogen (usually little or none, in flowering nutes) that is responsible for the color, as well as the basic building block for the leaves. As for your flowering nutes - no reason to wait to feed it, I start the very first watering once they've gone into flower.

just what i was thinking. The new growth that you are seeing is the "flower stretch." the plants do this in preparation for the buds, i have seen this on every grow i have done. One thing i deff have to agree with is not to stop feeding them. As they enter the flower stage they use a lot of energy as well as food to fuel that and they are gonna need the food.

But on the 7 days into flower is still a short time they can show as late as two weeks from my experience and that has been under CFL as well as HID

your buds must not taste to good since you don't flush them all all... too much chemical taste. not the way to go, lol the coffee shop grows, high times growers ect do a flush for taste an it helps along in the curing process to help get the extra chemicals that are in the soil/plant into the buds before it completely dies. you seem to have a lot of knowledge but to not flush is beyond me.
i would also like to point out they just slow down on the nitro not keep giving it as much as veg. mine stay nice an green as well but i slow down in the nitro it doesn't need it in veg. just throwing my 2 cents in.

My buds taste great, actually, they've all had a nice flavor with a faint, sweet aftertaste. Everyone who's tried them, has loved the taste. I've tried it flushed and not flushed - unless you are overnuting your plants, there really isn't much of a difference.

well heres a quick update...

as of yesterday (saturday) i noticed that i might be seeing the beginning of two hairs on the mystery plant. MIGHT BE. i appears as if two little hairs are starting to unroll/uncurl! too early to tell for sure.

i did give them fox farm flowering nutes for the first time yesterday. each plant is in a 5 gallon pot of fox farm ocean forest. i gave each plant two teaspoons of the flowering nutes and watered till the water started falling in the tray...then gave a tad bit more. they probably wont need water for a long time now (the soil holds water very well). forgot to mention my soil mix is 3 parts fox farm ocean forest 1 part organic soil (forget the brand) that is enriched with bat guano, worm castings, chicken manure, etc.

ph is still stabilized. the plants are looking good and perky. the mystery looks like a pure beast...main trunk is pretty thick (i have fans constantly rotating and blowing air on the plants.

note: the mystery strain is on the LEFT and the fem purple wreck (already showing hairs for sure) is on the RIGHT. in the far back of the pic (where the black box is standing up with a red and black switch) there is a fan just on top of it blowing DIRECTLY onto the hps bulb/ inside reflector.

the white thing on the left bottom corner of the pic is a tall white fan that rotates blowing air on both plants all 12 hrs of light. the plants are surrounded with boards and sheets of mylar. and a window within 2 ft of the plants is open allowing outside air in!

thanks.

nice plants
thanks. im really proud of these plants. its my first grow! ever! i smoked for like 7 years on and off but never tried to actually grow. since i just became ca legal (prop 215) i decided to give it a try.

im thrilled with how they are turning out. the purple wreck gave me problems initially but its come back pretty well (its the perkier of the two).

i will keep everyone updated with pics as long as this thread keeps interest. otherwise i will post in indoor growing or general marijuana growing (usually).

thanks for the comment.

this is an update...

ladies and gentlemen... i might have some AMAZING NEWS! its early still but my gf inspected the mystery plant this morning (as she turned on the lights for their 12/12 schedule today) and it appears that HAIRS have started to SHOW ON THE MYSTERY PLANT! im overjoyed at the moment as this thing is a BEAST! if i knew for sure it was a female before hand i would have vegged the shit out of it because i remember the weed i got that seed from...didnt know what kind it was but it was definitely some straight rope. no question.

this is also great news...tomorrow (Tuesday) marks the begin of its second week flowering and my mystery strain is at a 20 1/2 inches!!! the purple wreck (which already has shown hairs way earlier) is at 17 1/2 inches. this of course is measured from the base of the "trunk" to the very top of the plant!

im almost certain that the mystery one is going to have a much longer flower period...it just keeps getting bigger and bigger. it has shot up 3 1/2 in 2 days! the purple wreck shot up 2 1/2 inches in two days!

when during flowering (im sure after bud production has began...which it hasnt yet obviously) should the fan leaves be trimmed back? or even removed completely? i've seen quite a few grows (through friends and on here) where the fan leaves were trimmed in a upside down V shape...or removed completely from the plant. well im aware they can be removed completely in the last week or so of flowering. but when is it wise to trim back the leaves to allow more lite to penetrate?

im sorry i dont have pics just yet...will either post pics tonight or tomorrow morning!
