Looks good, im a little concerned with your soil tho, what is it? Looks pretty compacted with no perlite or anything like that for better drainage.

Its just a cheap organic soil i got from Wal-Mart. It appears to basically be A mulch or compost mix, idk its My Second grow, first one ill get to harvest, and it seems to be working pretty good so far

The bigger of.the five seems to.be.having.trouble staying up straight should.i steak it up or will it stand up and strengthen up on its own?

Perlite will not absorb water and it's light. Adding some will aid in drainage by effectively reducing the surface area within the soil while keeping it light and fluffy to reduce the tendency to compact after watering.

Vermeculite looks similar however it will absorb water. This would be great from something like a spider plant or colocasia that loves a moist soil, not great for cannabis.

Your plants look like their doing pretty well mine aren't much better than yours with 4 days more growth. They take their time right now while they are developing a root structure and leaves. In a week or two they should start growing surprisingly quick

I am only a couple days behind this, got them in some Zen Blend organic soil, so that's covered and got 5 little babies like this. My question is, when is a good time to re-pot them into my 5gal smart pot before the root structure gets too big?

Straight from Dixie cups to a 5 gallon pot is quite the leap.

I used crappy soil with my most recent seedlings as well. The root structure at this point is probably getting tap roots down to the bottom of the cups with very little secondary roots intertwined into the soil enough hold it together, youl just damafe roots trying to transplanting. Your going to have to wait it out till around the time the bottom false leaves fall off and it's ready for veg. That would be a good time to swap to around a 2.5 gallon pot for veg then give it a transplant to the 5 gallon shortly before flipping 12 12.

You'l know when it's time to transplant the plant will make it obvious. But crappy soil is always preferencial to broken roots.

What are the benefits of perlite over plain soil?
U mix it with soil for better drainage. .your soil looks like mud.

I was under the impression that perlite aids somewhat with water retention due to the microscopic holes/tunnels created when the water inside is flash heated?

Perlite retains water in cracks and holes on its surface, but it's non-porous and compared to something like vermiculite, holds much less water.

Yep plants look good but as everyone is saying you should definitely use better soil. Probably too late this grow cause autos hate to be transplanted. I think medium is in my top 3 things of growing a healthy plant. I recommend next grow you go with happy frog or ocean forest both by fox farm. Or roots organics. I'd add about 20% perlite to the mix and maybe 1 to2 tablespoons per gallon of dolomite lime to stable your pH.
