80 F / 20-30% RH for hang drying / curing

Hi Guys,

I live in the desert and it can be hard to get lower temperatures. I chopped my auto blue diesel yesterday and I'm hang drying it in a tent with clip on fan on the floor to get a light breeze going.

The tent weather is constantly around 77 --> 81 F , 20% --> 30% RH -- will I see negative effects from this?

I was reading that you would typically want RH to be 45% at least... but I simply can't get anywhere near that where I live, even with a humidifier.

This is my first harvest/dry/cure, so I don't want to mess this up! :weed:

if the tent is permeable (has a few gaps for air to go through) id say just leave it shut and maybe add some moisture by adding a bucket of water. Be careful with the cup you may want to just place it on the bottom center of the tent, and setup the fan so it pulls some air past the hanging buds, all the way at the top of the tent.

the gap between the floor and the top of the tent should be enough to make the water increase humidity a little, but not increase the chance of mold because it has space to mix with the air before the humid air touches the buds.

and then theres always boveda 62% packs

30% @ 80F is going to be crispy very fast. Id try to get humidity up to atleast 50%, preferably 60. hang up some wet towels for a cheap humidifier. If the tent doesnt have an exhaust fan running you should be able to get the humidity up. I run a vornado evaporative humidifier and can easily hit 90-92%, so even if you live in a salt pit you should be able to hit 50-60%.

Try wetting a towel, ringing it out and hanging it up in the tent.

Otherwise you're just gonna really wanna keep a very close eye on it, it wont take long to be bone dry. I dry my trim in 30-40% and its dry enough to be dust in 16-24 hours

any drying under 50 % humid is a problem. the out side of the bud drys very fast. moisture is locks on the inside of the bud. ( this is a little trick used very often by commercial growers ), that can get rid of it that day so the weight will be a lot more ! , and the smoke will be very harsh on the lungs, but they get extra cash into there pockets, lol don't ask how I know this , mmmm hmmmmmm for your personal smoke higher humid will dry from the inside out . what you want for a smooth smoke . just boil some water get your humid up . and try to keep your temps about 75 it should take at least 6 days to be totally dry done right. commercial grows are dry in 2 or 3days.

damn... all right guys, thanks. might have to invest in another humidifer -- I'm wary of leaving water sitting around or hanging towels lest I become the recipient of a disaster.

I was able to get my tent to under 78 so far today. I hope it continues.

Any suggestions for the best humidifer under $60?

I luckily have two auto berry ryders which are the "large" harvest, and thankfully I'm 7-10 days out on those so I can get a humidifer by then

I live in the desert and have been drying/ curing for years in this climate, the RH for drying really doesnt matter as long as you can pull 3-5 day dry then get it in the jars at 62-64 RH, the thing is to make sure its dry but still retains moisture in the center and stem.. You stick it in with higher rh than 65 it will just turn brown, the 80 degrees is gonna kill the dry... if anything get the temps down instead of adding humidity, im sure peeps will disagree but this is what ive learned from growing in a desert climate.

I was able to get the temps to 75-77F constant and 35% RH within the past 24 hours, thankfully.

i just dried a critical plus i grew, it dried in 4 days and got it on the jars at 64 Rh, perfect! Now to slowly bring it down to 62 by burping jars once a day for 5-10 minutes until it hits 62 then once a week 5 min each time

it was actually dank smoking it before any cure took place

For the last, oh four years I aim for 45-55% RH, 65-75 F. You'll have a quicker dry and shorter cure with your numbers; but you should be able to have a solid dry if you don't leave them in too long. Also; I've found that when the bud dries faster, there is a lot more moisture on the inside of the bud than I expected; resulting in a longer cure than expected and more frequent jar burping to keep the humidity in check. hope that kinda helps.

Definitely more frequent burping, I'm pretty much doing the same thing 3 days into cure so far so good. I thought I had accidentally dried my buds too fast, because of how dry the outside of the buds were.

When I jarred them up I threw in a bóveda 62% humidity, and to my surprise the buds were nice and moist feeling the next day. not too moist, it was just right; Real nice and sticky
