8020 as a heatsink for a DIY light

Not to be a picky bastard but mass and specific heat might have something to do with how well a heatsink performs... The 8020 looks to have a significant amount of surface area, not the ideal thin fins that traditional heatsinks have but maybe enough mass to overcome this?

yes it will work. PLC has talked about a light coming out that uses them. not out yet on his website.

https://8020.net/1003.html

thats the one u'd want i believe. as far as how much heat they can dissipate i haven't seen anyone on here using them yet, idk. probably pretty damn similar to a heatsink profile of the same size while being way easier to work with. i assume thats why greengenes is doin it.

edit. of course the one u linked would work too i just think the square might be easier to mount and maybe more surface area

sure about that? he talked about a new designed heatsink in his last video.
no not sure at all. he mentioned something about using 80/20 or 2020 as a heatsink and i know on his site it says custom extrusions coming soon. but as far as what hes actually going to do, no i have no idea.

either way 80/20 1003 is the part i'd use and it would work great as a strip heatsink.
