8inch fan ? enough?

Hi everyone,

I'd like to ask whether 8 inch fan 1086m3 would be enough for 1.2m tent with 600hps,sometimes with 1000w. I prefer that fan would be very silent and I'll use a speed control.There are two choices 8 inch or 10 inch ? which one,guys ? thanks.

Keep in mind that if you use a carbon filter attached to your 8" fan:

1. An 8" carbon filter weighs on the order of 15 lbs (some significantly more), and is hard to install by yourself. Mine certainly was.
2. The carbon filter will significantly reduce the actual exhaust speed of the fan, since it's gotta pull the air through the pre-filter, and then through the charcoal.
3. Match your filter "speed" to your fan speed. Filters are rated for a max "speed" as well.

To sufficiently run a 600w or 1000w you should only need a

SYSTEMAIR RVK150L1 at most.

If you're in the UK then you can do it with the standard 150a1 fan.

The L1 kicks 660m3/h
The A1 kicks 480m3/h.

I use an A1 with my 400w on a speed controller and it's always running on lower speeds.

They aren't quiet fans though. Around 40dB at full power.

8" even slowed down will still howl.

Acoustic box fans are quieter and produce higher m3/h than their standard inline cousins.

get a silencer for the exhaust side of the fan, it will quiet it down massively.

1.2m is about 4 ft. If you tent is 1.2x1.2 and is usual height then an 8" fan is way too much. Even a 6" fan at full speed would be more than you really need... go with with a 6" and a speed controller to slow it down a bit. I could see an 8" fan imploding a 1.2m tent is a couple seconds....

Agree with above, 6" is overkill already, 4" would still be overkill at max speed for that tent. You only want to clear the air every 2 minutes, not 10x per minute, lol. This is especially important if you exhaust outdoors. If you go overkill you are blowing way too much heated/cooled air out of your home, way inefficient.
