You can think of it in terms of what can fit inside a 4x4 then multiply by 4. 16 fairly big plants would work well. Keep in mind, if you increase the # of plants, your workload will increase too and you'll already be spending a lot of time feeding and caring for this # plants. If you are new to a larger grow, don't make any more work for yourself than you need to!
 
Anything from 256 to 1.

Me, I'd do 16 as long as I had full access to two sides of the tent. As in both sides open enough to manage one side from either .
Otherwise your looking at needing space to get in and work on them

I have done 6 plants from seeds 5x5 tent.. They grew 6 montths in phase 1 and another 6 months in the 2ndphase They awarded about 5 feet. I had to add.an a/c and open some of the windows.
It worked out very well.

If you're asking this don't worry about maximizing your yield, just get through your first grow. After that you'll have many different questions, good luck.
