So I'm just finishing my first grow ever, outdoors. got about 4 weeks til harvest.

anyways after reading things for a couple weeks it seems so much more complex getting started than it was for an outdoor grow.

Here's my goal..

10 plants in 7 gallon pots. 4 week veg then Xweeks flowering (depending on flower times per strain..)

First, will that be enough room for that many plants? I'm planning to mainline so i will keep them pretty short but I do know hps and mh need to be a good distance away from the top of the plants.

Now is it necessary to have mh for veg and hps for flower. Or can I use either or for both? I have read that spectrums on hps might cause longer internodal spacing, how accurate is that? is it something I should worry about? if I don't mainline I wanted to heavy bottom prune and grow a tree but i doubt that's possible in a 6.5 foot tent. maybe scrog.

also what is the minimum number of lights I will need to keep these girls growing vigorously? 1 1000 2 1000 or say even 3 1000s or 4 600s? would that many even fit in my tent? would they cause too much of a heat issue? I know nothing about indoor lighting as my first door was under the good ol sun. it seemed to do the work for me.

and last main question.. lol I don't understand anything about exhaust ducting and intake/in line fans and all that stuff.. idek what an intake fan is. what would suffice my size of grow tent? whatever lights I get should they be the kind with air cooled reflector hoods?

I have a shit ton of questions and I read a lot but I wanna no more now on my specific setup..

thanks in advance.

the room in the photos is 4' x 9' with 9' ceilings. the ten plants are in 5 gallon pots. there are two 600 watt lights. The issue is heat. you have to have an exhaust fan that will move the hot air out of that room in an expeditious manner. which means quickly. calculate the volume of the room, L x W x H and buy an exhaust fan that can move that air in about 2-3 minutes. When you put a charcoal filter on the fan it will decrease its ability to exhaust air considerably. so allow for that.

You could run just hps lights in the area. No specific need for mh IMO. You could run two 600 watt lamps in that space or two 1000 watts. Best bet IMO would be to get two 1000 watt lamps with digital ballasts that can turn the lamps down to 75 or 50% in case of heat issues.

In that space you could have 36 plants pretty large in 5 gal pots each. That would be squishing the plants in but can be done.

A good route to go is to run your lights inside air cooled hoods. If you are inside a sealed tent or sealed area you typically would want two centrifugal air fans. One fan would cool the lamps and a separate fan would pull ambient air from outside the grow room into the grow room and through a carbon filter. You would need to vent this exhaust into another room or outside preferably.

Its kinda hard to type out how to ventilate a grow room but I am sure there are a lot of good online guides. Remember that air filtering doesn't work unless your area is sealed.

yeah I'm gonna be in a tent so it'll be all sealed and it'll be exhausted outside. and pulling air from outside as well.

but I was even considering T5HO.. for veg and hps for flower. would that be something I should consider? I plan to scrog two plants per screen.. hoping for a pound.. with as much light as I need. I have 1 1000 and 2 600s hps for flower. doubt I need all that but for a pound I figure it should be cake.

T5 is a good option but that light is best when it sits directly above the plant. So with plants that size you might need an individual t5 unit per plant. I'd still just stick with hps unless you had a separate room for veg. If you do the set it up with a bunch of t5s.

In my 10x10 veg room, I only used 3, 8 light T-5 fixtures and if you were to lay down in the tent and look up at the lights they are positioned in a triangle shape around the room so it covers the canopy evenly. I haven't had any issues.

I have a 4ft w x 8ft L 7.5 h I use a hooded air cooled 600w light on one side with a dimmable ballist and a 400 w hps on the other side that only has a reflective hood and I'm having serious heat spikes. I ran duct off the air cooled light with a 8in duct fan to a window for exhaust and opened the vents at the bottom with a high power fan from work to dry floors with in the corner suckling in fresh air from my room and it's not doing the trick if you have lights that you can run ducting off both I would recommend it. The 400w light is putting off enough heat to make the tent Temps go from a 72 night time low to high 80s once mid nineties if I don't open up a door and put the fan out side the tent. The weather on Christmas here was a high of 86 and I use a window fan in my room to blow cold air in so that has made it worse. I need help finding out how to have the tent sealed up completely all the time and not have to worry about checking Temps all the time. Any advice? I don't want to get a new light but am willing to spend a little cash on fans duct ect..
