How can you not recognize the historic shift in wealth and income to a smaller percentage of the population over the last 50 years? Do you think that came about organically? Or were there self serving policy changes to benefit business that have done nothing to innovate or strengthen its own workforce? In fact those interests have eroded the United States' economic and political standing in the world.

Pride is envy to the extreme. It's the irrationality you're the best. Even if you aren't, it's the stubbornness to never admit or refuse to admit. Pretty much, pride is envy of the self.
The opposite of pride is humility.
The opposite of envy is:
contented, friendly, kindly, satisfied, trustful and well-disposed. You have problems with those? That's personally my goal in life. If I'm lucky, I'll achieve those.

One way to deal, is to pat ourselves on the back and say we are Pure. That's Pride born of Envy.

The problem is multi-fold. In part, it is that you don't know the definition of a competent CEO. You can say this or that. But, you are not qualified to judge that or this. The Boards, only, judge those quals. They care nothing about our opinion.
Also, you have no idea of what happened to the CEOs that ended up needing a stimulus. In other words you have no idea who lost their job for cause, ie, incompetent and the Board got another CEO after the bailouts.....do you?

That is a bit of contorted psychobabble. Pride is the envy of self? when one believes that one is enviable in and of himself, then he does not envy himself but expects others to evny him.
One who is without envy is contented and friendly etc, but that is an ABSENCE of envy and not it's opposite just as an absence of pride is humility.
