90 w LED - Need advice qucik! Should I replace with 400 w hps? +rep for the help

Hey everyone, just went to local hydro store to get a 250 hps because I was planning on doing a stealth cab grow, but he convinced me to get a 90 w led ufo instead. Spent 400 motherfucking dollars on this thing. IS IT WORTH IT??????????????

Now i'm thinking i'm just gunna buy a grow tent and run a 400w hps in it.

SHOULD I GO GET A HPS AND RUN IT WITH THE 90w LED, or should i take back the led and just get the 400??

Dude at the hydro store told me the 90 w led is the equivelent to a 400 w light.

ALL opinions wanted.

Appreciate it guys, please get back to me quick.:hump:

theres been so many mixed opinions on led lights it's hard to say. I plan on sticking with hid lights until the LED lighting has more scientific evidence.

On the otherhand i heard 420 magazine had good results with an led light (around 100w i think) against a 400w hps.

I would take back the LED and get the HPS. I was recently using 2 UFOs and 160w of fluoro(sp) and in theory they should've been equal to 1000w hps aprox. The leds couldn't sustain it though and I had to switch to HPS and they have started to thrive again.

obviously money is a factor for you, so I'd take the LED back if they'll take it, and get the 400w. LED's are awesome, but you have to spend a lot more to get the equivalent. It doesn't sound to me like it's worth it with your budget to go for something with that sort of premium when HID will perform well. The only major disadvantage is you might have to vent more or cool the HID.

Money isn't an issue at all lol i'm just a cheap fuck and not trying to use over 650 watts veg/flower combined. Thanks for all the help guys keep it comin with proof and shit or anyone experienced

Think I'm just gunna keep it, then gunna get a tent with a 400 w hps. Any suggestions where I can get an all around good deal on light, tent, fans etc in a package?

Your harvest will suffer if you persist with LED for the complete cycle, LED are very good in the veg phase however once you switch over to 12/12 LED do not have the intensity to produce large buds and weight will be greatly reduce in comparison to HPS .... go and get your dollars back and buy something nice for your babies ;) HPS HPS HPS

if you don't have money to blow, you are correct, but you are incorrect in saying you can't get HID replacements in LED's, regardless of phase. It will cost you 4-10 times as much (and you have to weed through all the crap out there trying to rip you off), so for most of us it's prohibitively expensive, but not for all. If spending 2-4 grand on lights, when an HID could do it for less than $400, isn't a big deal for you then the benefits of led (heat, energy, spectrum, etc) can be well worth it over HID.

Well I don't want to use more than 600 w total on my grow. Gunna have 100 w. CFL for veg. So really what this comes down to is - if I took this 90 watter led back and got a 600 w hps, would it outperform a 400 w hps + 90 w led combined. So really, 200 w hps vs. 90 w led. WHO WINS???

The HPS would definitely out perform the ufo in flowering and considering that most growers aren't in it for beautiful fronds and tiny buds my personal opinion would be with the HPS. My first attempt at growing was using those ufos and I was incredibly disappointed.

yeah, the UFO isn't going to make up the difference imo. You'd be better off with the 600w. My impression of UFO's is that they are more spotlights than primary lights.

correct..Go get your money back and get a 400 or 600 watt hps.You can get a cmh bulb or multi spectrum bulb to give your plants full spectrum.
Mny might consider me a led basher because i always ask for proof on how they compare in wieght and growth to hps but till this day there is no proof just he say she say.
That hightimes link,420 magazine has unfinished info nor do they have grow side by side.So if you ask me they just say it to sell it.
Maybe later on in the future when led lights become cheaper and better then they can compare but as of now they are good for disco lights and suppplementry lights.

You seem very knowledgable, I've read lots of your posts on here before dude. My boy who bought it for me said the fuck he bought it from won't take it back because he payed cash and didn't ask for a receipt :(, Just gunna get a 400 setup from htg supply, and use the 90 led for supplimentary lighting for now. One day when i'm medical i'll do a side by side of led and hps because I haven't scene any legit ones yet which is annoying.

Wherever your boy got it from sounds like he got ripped off.Whenever i buy something froma hydro store with or without a recipt they will take it back because they know my face and they know their product.You can tell they just wanted to sell it because it was sitting on the shelf for a while.I would never use that shop again for future ref..

it was a "Homegrown Hydroponics" store in a city near me. I was with my buddy when he bought the shit, guy talked us out of getting a hps set up. Douchey hippy no-it-all that didn't know who Jorge Cervantes is but thought he knew everything about ganja and growing and such.
