a 2nd try with Cali-O

time again to fire up the grow chamber, had a pause between grows
my 1st run was a Cali-O male, got pollen but no bud, the price of regular seeds
grow setup is a 15 inch diameter cylinder made from aluminum flashing
pre-painted white which makes a nice inexpensive reflector
3 27w cfl's(currently home depot 5500k) at the top, with a 80mm case fan for ventilation
a very slow start here, grow chamber is in a lightly heated room, chamber temps down in the 60's
things will pick up, but for now a tiny plant for 9 days

add 7 days, and a plant emerges
nothing fancy, but beginning to catch up a bit
kind of a funny half twist on the largest leaves, doesn't look unhealthy, just a little odd

a week can make quite a difference, looking to be in the zone
this is flower time, about 5 inches with 5/6 nodes
the 1st cali-o i grew was just as compact, but turned out male
so lesson learned, compact does not equal female for this strain

glad for the company, now just need the female luck
no smell to speak of, but that will likely change

7 days of 12/12 - not obvious yet whether male or female
a few more days should be enough, i find the squatness hopeful
healthy looking and has caught up from the slow start(cool grow chamber temps)

Damn dude looking great we are almost on the same time frame. We hopefully will be able to harvest the nuggage together.

nuggage sounds good oldmerchant, but a wrench seems to have hit the works
2 weeks of 12/12 - some balls have sprouted, so this is not the best of all possible worlds
but they seem a bit sparse, so not sure if just a male or a she male
plucked the balls i saw off, guess i'll let this plant run a while longer
very squat for a male, if it is a male, only a foot tall at the moment
i think there are pistils too, but showing slowly, so it's a bit confusing

it looks like the rooster has crowed, no female here but a full balls male
so time to tidy up the log with a final pic and summary
2 for 2 on males with nirvana cali-o so far, but that's well within normal for reg seeds
and the male is a rather compact one, 18 inches tall, so i shall freeze dry some more pollen

Damn, dude, sorry to see those balls there. I've got two Dutch Passion Cali-O ladies vegging atm. I grew the DP reg Cali-O years ago and liked it very much, but now they only sell fem seeds, so I bought a few, germed three, two survived and are thriving. I'm hoping the smoke is the same as what I got from the reg seeds, we shall soon see. Anyways, you might wanna check out Dutch Passion Cali-O fem seeds if you want a guarantee of buds from your next attempt. I know it's tough, I've gotten plenty of males from reg seeds, that's why I always germ at least five reg beans at a time...so I can be almost sure to get something to smoke (besides leaves) out of every attempt.

thanks for the look and suggestion xebeche, for a micro grower a male can be a hit
but i still have some jars of cured, not doing without
but i have another 8 seeds of the reg cali-o, i will taste that sweetness eventually
i may eventually try some femme seeds, just working through the regs i still have
and good luck with the femmes

thanks for the condolences oldmerchant, though there is a funny wrinkle with the male
the upper 1/2 inch is female, it has a tiny little cola on top, with nice perfect pistils
it's amazing the strange things you see with mj
