A/C Unit???? HELP!

Does anyone know where I can get a CHEAP portable a/c unit? We're not trying to spend too much, and I've looked all over the net. I can't find anything under $300. Any links, suggestions, or any other ways to lower the temp of our room would be greatly appreciated. We already have a fan, a blower for intake, and an exhaust fan. I don't know what else we can do.

HELP!!!

Looking all over the net? There are 6000 AC units on ebay for a little money, they will have what you need, but climate control is expensive. Dont think a cheap unit wont cost you more in electricity then the money you save by not investing in quality AC.

PS, consider using intake air from the basement.

no, the end that is supposed to be outside needs to be outside or else the heat stays in the room. They have portable ac units that have a vent that goes to a window to expel the hot air.

that can be fine but do it with sheet metal and make sure you have all of the heat contained until it is out of the room...btw...lowes and home depot have them cheap as shit...at least where i live cause it's so fuckin hot :blsmoke:

What if you built a box around the back of the AC and then vented that elsewhere?
now your thinking, you would have to vent it outside or to a completely different part of the house. also you would have to figure out a way to catch and dispose of the evaporated water.

i think you are thinking of condensation and not evaporation. :blsmoke:

I bought a used one on craigslist for less than $100.00 works good. Keeps it right at 78 or so. I have some high temps to deal with. I'm not sure about modifying a window unit though.

Nice setup.

I was more talking about a box instead of a partition/wall though.
If you partition a closet it becomes a box :) I tried another setup once before with a box. The inside box didn't work out to well. What I ended up with on that grow was a window mounted A/C unit and then I boxed in the window. Then I ran ducting to my grow room. In the ducting I put an inline fan and an inline duct dampner (when activated it opens to let air through). Then when my thermostat triggered, the vent opened, the fan pulled the cold air in. THe box was also a gret place to put my ballasts.

I bought a 5000 btu air conditioner from Target last week, went to all the work of cutting a hole in the wall and it didn't cool for shit. And this is in a 4' X 8' room. I took it back.

I have seen small 5000, maybe 6000 BTU a/c units for small rooms for around $100. I think home depot had one, and I found one on the net for the same price. Keep looking you should find one somewhere. Craigslist is good too, I also seen a few on ebay. Good luck.

That would work
Don't forget about the drip bucket.

The A/C gets it air from behind the unit. The problem is if you keep using the same air all the time, there will not be any fresh co2. If you vent air in from another source, it will defete the purpose of the a/c.

If you look close at the pics thumbnailed on my first post on the link below you will see I vent the hot air (because it rises) and the A/C pulls air from what is pulled in by the vent fan. The air is pulled into the closet close to the ground (where it is cool). Your box needs to take all of this into consideration.
