A Comprehensive Review of the Aerogarden

Whether or not you believe my statements is of little concern to me. Those results are easily attainable. The 1 gram per watt "theory" has been called a farce by many many experienced growers. With proper side light and the right strain (Big Bud, in my opnion) and some pruning here and there at the right times those results are a sure thing. I do not post pics because I feel uncomfortable, thus you are correct that my statements are little more than testimony. For that I am apologetic.

To all 420's,

I just placed an order for the Aero Pro 100 Series. This unit is actually different from the other models, it also provides 24 hours of continuous light which bypasses the 17 hours max setting on the previous model.

This message is for Mr. Intricate:

I would like to pick your brain for a little. What would you recommed when addressing the lighting issues with aerogrow?

Do you have any pictures of your setup?

I have had some trouble with this system with having my plants be males. I have been using the aerogarden nutrients and was wondering where you purchased you nutrients and how much to use each time.

I'm pretty sure you can use any mixture you want. It depends on what plant you are growing.

If growing weed, then use hydro nutes you would use with weed. As simple as that, just follow the directions on the bottle as you would normally.

AeroGarden isn't much more then a molded peice of plastic that holds the necessary components.

Personally, I would rather save the money and build a simple bubbler unit then buy an aerogarden for growing weed. Biggest cost is the air pump and @ ~$30 for a pump that can power a large (20gal+) res, it is better then the cost of the aerogarden and is much more expandable.

I have an Aerogarden, but I find it more useful for herbs. I still want to modify it to include a bubbler though, I don't like the photos of brown roots I see in the manuals.

Well glad for yall to bring up the AG cuz I got a little grow going too. I had 7 hab seeds and 5 died. Now I got one big plant and one little plant. Got no idear on the sex. I topped and LSTD the big one. Noticed today when I opened the flap where you added water..the root ball on the big one was twisted over and lifted up with about 1/4 of it dry as a bone. I filled with water and it seem to cover it but just barely. I think my roots are already hopelessly tangled. I also cant pull out the airstone because of roots. Whuts a mother to do?

hi, I think I'm responding to Mrintricate? I'm so new at this chat/website thing, but if this is you THANKS so much for that AG info, extremely helpful, I just posted questions and a picture, to who or where I have no idea, was trying to ask "tek" questions, dunno, anyway, I have 2 Ag machines, the local hydro store guys are helping me as much as they can, yunno, but they gave me stronger food, watching adjusting PH carefully as you say, my questions are:
do you think the AG delux upgrade kit lamps are strong enough? 24" growing
platform w/ 3 times stronger bulbs, and what is PPM? Right now I've got
many healthy plants, was always planning to thin out to 3 exactly how you
stated it, would like to do that now but can't tell gender, what to do? guess?
do you use herb setting? was thinking strwberry setting, less light, might force gender to start? I'm so new at this, only just found out why you separate and that one wants females and why. but can males grow buds at all? guys at store say figure it out, separate and start pinching the 3 plants to creat a bonsai effect, true? how do you pinch? i've had these machines
exactly 4 weeks, and I too am way attached to them as well as the plants! don't want to lose everything, any advice greatly appreciated. I just got seeds from a friend, don't know what clones are, I grow roses and many things outdoors, have a pretty good green thumb, but this is all new world for me. next time, clones, but for now, any gender advice?
I'll try and attach a pic, taller machine has upgrade lamp kit, am about to buy one for the smaller (shorter) machine unless you tell me not to bother!
thanks in advance, oh man I'm not even sure how to find out when people
respond to me! i'm just floating around this site like the internet moron that
I am. oh well, i'll figure it out somehow.

oh yeah I'm okeyd on this webiste.

I just bought a aerogarden space saver off a guy on craigslist for 30 bucks. I hope it works out this is a cool learning tool for building your own.

Mr. Intricate: I'd like to respond to some of the things you said, especially the negatives. You're absolutely right about the lights. The two round CFL's are worthless beyond the germination/seedling stage. Most Aerogardeners don't know that there is an upgrade kit available that has three high intensity lamps that I have found sufficient for growing our favorite herb and the same kit contains a taller arm/light stand that extends to 24 inches. You can also modify the arm/light stand to get a 1 1/2 inch adjustment instead of the stock three inches.

With three healthy plants you are going to have to prune the roots but don't take more than a third of the root structure or some funny things can happen. Also make sure that your nutes have a good amount of vitamin B-1 when you prune.

I know there's a new fad of playing 'musical holes' with your plants for lighting but I haven't found the need and I have to question the disturbance as being unnecessary. What I have done that seems to work just as well is place inexpensive mirrors around mine and tilt them at a slight angle so that the light is reflected back up.

The miniature size of our reservoirs causes a lot of problems. Water quality and pH are biggies and I check mine daily. As far as washing the filter? I found a hint I got from a book I reviewed last year at work of stretching a woman's small nylon sock over the pump and the end of the tower, the kind nylon socks they wear with flat shoes. This seems to be pretty much all the protection you need. You can also buy a protective pump sock from your local hydroponics store for fifteen bucks but the woman's sock you can get for free if you wine and dine her first.

You might also want to recommend that Aerogardeners use either distilled water or very good bottled water unless they want it plugged up with mineral deposits. They should also visit Aerogarden's web site to see some of the neat things A/G has to make our life sompler. Other than that I think you did an excellent job on your review. I agree with you that the A/G is an amazing growing system. It's compact, energy efficient, user friendly and it's easy to see why it's becoming so popular.
