Blame the channels for being greedy, not directv. Viacom wants to charge directv a Big chunk of change to carry their channels. If DTv accepted those terms, they would have to raise their rates to customers to make up for it, which they don't want to do

The cost increase would get passed to you. If subscribers jump ship, then DTV would be in a bind to make the payments. They choose it is not worth the risk to them or the expense to you. Dropping the channels means viacom is not getting paid anything. When they see the loss of income, they will come back with a better offer. That is the Wall-mart strategy. Suppliers meet the price Wall-mart will accept or their products are not on ANY store shelves. No sales if not on the shelves, and they reduce their price demands because the massive sales makes up for not getting what they initially wanted. Some suppliers would go out of business if Wall-mart dropped them. It is sort of economic blackmail, but it works.

Interesting. Yeah, I'd get Direct TV but I they don't give me my actual local channels, so i wouldn't get the sports shows I want to watch.

Well the thing is, where i'm at in Wisconsin is close to the Minnesota border, so they assume I want the stations out of Minneapolis/St. Paul. But no, I want the Wisconsin channels dammit! I have to be able to watch the Packers in the fall (and sure I could get NFL Sunday ticket I suppose, but that shit is kind expensive after the first year. And I shouldn't have to have that to watch the team from the state I live in).

I called and got $20 off a month for 1 year and a couple of extra channels.

It does little to soothe my soul over the loss of Spongebob but at least it's something.

C'est la vie.

Is this a permanent thing? I don't watch much TV, but comedy central was one of the only channels I did watch...

I heard it was only supposed to be for like 2 weeks or so.... but I haven't talked to anybody that really knows.

So Viacom wants to soak DirectTV subscribers for a Billion dollars. And as a means of getting leverage, Viacom has cut you off from Nick, Jr.

DirectTV won't absorb the increase, they can't. But they are trying to protect you from it.

And your answer is to punish DirectTV by demanding goodies or you will unsubscribe. Then to encourage other subscribers to do the same.

Do you not realize you are essentially demanding that DirectTV accept Viacom's ultimatum, thus raising your rates by 30%?

You and everyone else who calls DirectTV to complain are doing Viacom's bidding.

Well played. :dunce:
