A Few Questions about Bag Seeds

There's a good bit of talk about growing bag seeds and what not. From what I gather, seeds that are of unknown strains are called "bag seeds". Basically, you bought a bag of pretty good smoke and happened upon a rare seed. Why not plant it and see what turns up?

Well, so to my questions.

A pro to growing a bag seed is that it's free, of course. What are some cons? If the weed the seed came from was really good, should the seed grow a plant that is really good? How come buying known strains from seed dealers is so popular, when bag seeds from a bag of frosty ass dank is basically free? Aren't most strains just named by someone who crossed a few plants and does it really amount to much in the big picture?

I would consider growing bag seeds to be a good start for beginners. Are there any grow masters out there that still grow bag seeds? Say a person had a collection of 20-30 seeds from random bags, bought from different places etc. What are the chances that those seeds will grow great bud? For example, I take 15 seeds, germinate them all and a few months later I have some really frosty looking buds. All differing in size and color and smell. How do you know, at this point in the grow, which plants are going to really deliver a knock out high?

I know this is a lot of questions and feel free to answer any or even add a few if you'd like. I was just interested in the idea behind the "bag seed". Any other info that would add to the discussion is welcome as well. Thanks.

Theirs nothing wrong with growing bag seed

you dont know the genetics of it but you can still grow the bag seed and it can be better then the original bag of weed you got it from

it could turn out to be pretty dank

But i still prefer to know what im growing though

just buy you some reg seeds

grow a few , if you get any males yank them all BUT 1

use that one to pollinate your female and you get all the free seeds you want

and you will know what they are

You can use this method to just get seeds on one branch instead of the whole plant

Cons?

Well for me I have a female strain that's been around my house for 5 or 6 years, introducing a seed that could produce a male plant could be pretty detrimental if not taken care of immediately. Other than that I can't really see it being bad other than it not growing to it's potential for whatever reason and you've wasted all that time/space, that would be a bummer.

I'm currently growing some bag seeds and are going to veg them long enough to spot the sex, not worried about how fast they finish, which should be a main priority for most people with growing bag seeds. I think you should always spot the sex before you start flowering, it's much harder to spot if you do the whole 12/12 from the start type thing imho.

Bagseed means mexican brickweed for the most part. They grow well with vigor and you never know what you will get. .It is great for beginners. If you dry and cure it correctly it will get you good and stoned. There are expections but if you are not a pot snob, you should be real happy with the cannabis you get from brickweed.

The "mexi mafia" seems to be upgrading their quailty to compete with all the legal grows. They are switching to indoor grows, loking for 45 day strains and they try to buy "decent seeds in bulk"

You will hear many opinions and thats just mine.

Got bagseed? Grow it!!!

I have one skunk female growing now, she's from bagseed. However, I remember the bag, from my regular source which is normally very good street grade, this particular z was very potent and very skunky. It approached some of the med. grade stuff I've had but it was commercially packaged and pressed into kilo bricks. This skunk has proven to be a very good seed choice for indoor hydro, it's super bushy, very healthy and never had to top it, it just wanted to bush out and now at 30 days of 12/12 she's getting side colas that are starting to fill in 6-10" or so on nearly all the side branches and there's about 36 branches on this one plant. I've got a handful of clones growing under her as we speak, it was that good! Now just waiting on her to finish to see what her final quality and yield will be, so far she's getting frosty with trich's and buds are dense and plentiful! My other seed also bagseed ended up being some kind of kush, it's also 30 days into flowering and it's not going to yield much as it's small it should be very high grade as the trimmings are already very, very potent.
