A few questions from a noob

First off. Hi everyone!

Total noob to growing and to RollItUp so if my questions are blatantly moronic and not well thought out feel free to berate me and slag me off... just kidding. I do appreciate true criticism though, especially from those with a higher understanding of the art/s i'm trying to lean about.

So for my first grow I've gone with some decent bag seed I got from a friend, these will be using to learn how to take cuttings, clones, topping/fimming and all that jazz so even if I screw up it won't matter to much
and some WSS fem skunk** as my non experimental 'Master' grow.

Pots and Mediums:
I have decided to run a 1 (uk) gal DIY Hempy bucket for each plant using a coir with a medium grit perlite reservoir.

Grow Spaces:
The grow spaces are 100cm x 50cm and 50cm deep (per plant) each containing 4 x 35W 6500k and 1 x 35W 2700k CFL. The 6500k lights are on each side of the plant and the 2700k above, both are adjustable to match plant as it grows (more lights can be added later in the grow should they be needed). I have 5x 80mm pc fans (3 intake and 2 exhaust) hooked to a universal plug which allows my to vary the voltage/speed of the fans. I have the intake fans at the top of the grow space and the exhaust fans on the opposing wall at the bottom of the grow space.

My seedling box is a smaller set up of 30cm high x 20 cm wide with a depth of 20cm, this only contains 1 x 13W 6500k and 2 fans (1 intake 1 exhaust).

Nutes:
I'll be using the BioBizz** range of nutes at 1/2 strength once seedlings have got to veg stage then upping to full strength incrementally over a few weeks.

Questions:
Now you know the set up it's time for those questions the title mentioned lol.

1: What do you guys think of my choices for my first grow? (CFLs are my choice because it's cheaper and easier to have them rigged to an emergency battery set up should my lecky go out lol).
2: Would adding a coil of highly perforated aquarium airline to the reservoir and an airpump pumping air through it like a... wassname (bubbler?) have negative effects on the roots?
3: If the answer to question 2 is 'yes it would have negative effects' (or similar), what if I had the coil of airline in my reservoir and used a syringe to manually agitate and aerate my reservoir only a couple times a day?

Sorry for the wall of writing lol and I look forward to hearing from you all :)
Highness and happiness to you all.

Welcome and yes you will be berated at every opportunity, but only if you don't care or don't study ...you ask me wot you think ...I'd go for an easier medium like potting mix ...is a great easy start

Hiya TwistedSaviour, sounds good so far but vostok is right about the potting mix...Far more forgiving for Newbs...I'm still in the Dirt Myself....

Welcome to R.I.U.

Leccy? You gotta be a brit!

Peace

(At the risk of me sounding like a muppet) Vostok do you mean use potting mix like a straight up soil grow, no hempy bucket?

and yup I be a brit cc2012 :)

Any thoughts on questions 2 and 3 for my future grows if I decide to swap medium?

Oh forgot to mention that I started the bag seeds using the paper towel germination method then transplanted them in to pre soaked/drained coir pellets a bout a week ago and will be putting the pellets in to my medium over the next few days. Would this be an issue if I planted them in potting mix?

My plan is to give the bagseed about a month of growth before I plant my bought seeds and that way any method testing or experimenting can be done to give me plenty of time to error correct and such before I do anything to the plant from the bought seeds.

Good luck! I agree, stick to soil to start. I use ProMix HP and have always had great success. My buddy switched to hydro one summer and a clogged pump killed a plant...granted he could have caught it before the plant died, but that's one of the good things about soil, you can leave the house for a couple of days if you have to.

I've never grown with CFLs, and I wouldn't. But, some pictures from CFL grows are pretty good looking....so long as you are just looking to grow a small personal stash. From what I've read, people are always surprised by the amount of heat they generate....

I'd say F*** the bag seeds. You are going to spend time and money regardless of your genetics, with bag seeds you might end up with males, hermie prone genes, low yielder, low THC, etc...your best bet would be to find a friend that can cut you some clones.

Any reservoir should be aerated. I have air stones from Meijer (our local everything store, air stones were in the aquarium stuff). From what I understand, this provides more available oxygen and also hinders algae growth. No, it will not have negative effects.

Be consistent in what you do. Don't change things every day and when a problem develops, wait for your attempted solutions to take hold before changing something else. Regarding the forum: You will receive immediate potential solutions, but you will not know anything of the source. You can get yourself all worked up over nothing by immediately bringing small changes in the condition of a leaf to the forum. Do your reading and see if anyone has already answered the question or had the same problem.

Good luck!
