Plus a little more "Red spectrum" light.

You can for sure dim that light down under 200 watts without issue. That said, I don't own the diablo 200 kit but have a few meanwell xlg-xxx-a drivers that I run well below their max output with different boards/strips and no issues.

Like others said earlier, there's a small plug on the bottom of the driver with allows you access to a "screw" that will adjust the amount of current allowed to the boards. In turn, the driver will adjust the voltage down to match what the leds require to run at said current. It will essentially give the same result as people who have knob style dimmers.

I would recommend getting a kill-a-watt wall meter and you can use that when adjusting to get into whatever sweet spot you want it at.

That is just my basic understanding on the xlg series drivers. I am no expert by any means so hopefully someone can clean try to re-hash this out for you. @shimbob has seemed to be able to explain this best imo. Sorry for the semi rant, just found myself confused as well to what was actually being said.

I got a hlg-320h-c2100-b and the dual Diablo boards w/ 3-slot slate heat sink setup from Cobkits.com, to followup filling a 3’x7’spot after a Christmas gift HLG 260W XL QB288 V2 Rspec (same setup but with qb228 v2 Rspec and a invrntronics EUM-240s350dt).

I am partial to the qb288 setup running at only 260W over my Diablo settup at 320w I think, atm. Both seem to be fine and I really need a grow or two to see how it pans out. I think I expected a little more from the Diablo settup, but it honestly is I think very evenly balanced with the 288 settup (is this bad?).

Bro-science guesstimation is I think with the qb648 having almost twice the diodes of the 288, my 288 settup is being pushed much harder per-diode than my 648s. Meaning I could push the diablos much harder… but until I see a grow or two, and observing a nice balance with them working together side-by-side… or barring a quality but stronger driver, than my 320W, lands on my workbench soon… I’m happy and patiently watching the glow.

Nice light, wouldn’t mind it, but have been contemplating building my own bar strip light rig… or get a Bspec QB288 kit, baba want bad.


My bar light (or QB288 Bspec) I want to have steered towards be seedling/clone to veg duty in a maybe 2x2 area and maybe a little extra kick to the flowing settup if it’s not in. Trying to budget at $200-$250 bones. (…and thus why a HLG Bspec kit at less than that looks delicious).

From everything i have read here, if you have a problem with one of their products they make it right. If they didnt you would find a thread here about it.
@pop22 is still active here and may have the answer

For myself, running a single board at 200w was pretty hot considering its footprint

Yes, it actually draws less power. Efficiency goes down with lower draw also. I believe a 50% dim lowers efficiency to about 86%. Not certain about that amount, it's been a while since I looked at those specs.

Interesting, I got one last week and the driver was not mounted to the heatsink.

The Diablo 200 comes w/ a Meanwell XLG-200-H-A, I believe. This model, the “A”, is dimmable via a built-in potentiometer in the back of the driver’s case.

Now, as the package is sold and assembled (per instructions or to be “under warranty”), the driver is mounted on top of this heat sink, with the ass-end not very ergonomically accessible.

Im assuming HLG says dimming is optional over “disassembly required” or etc.

At 625 watts, the Scorpion puts out almost 1800 PPF! It doesn't need a bigger driver lol!

I beieve the 200 Diablo has a one year warranty, but it may be more, I'll ask.

And so you all know, I just found this thread or I would have replied sooner.

Don't get me wrong. I have a bunch of HLG lights now, and love them all. They're in both rooms. I just like the spread of the bar lights and have never tried one. And I was a little disappointed that you can't dim the 200. If the 200 was dimmable I'd recommend it way more.

I'm a big fan though, and still recommend your stuff all the time.

I may be mistaken (apologies if already mentioned), but what I read the Diablo 200 I think has a 1-yr warranty (I assume because it is/mostly a pre-wired assembly), but the Diablo-boards (the qb648) have NO WARRANTY, this is because if you make the simple mistake (read: Murphy’s Law) of connecting the wiring to the wrong polarity you WILL fry some diodes (+ to a - receptacle, and vice versa)… and unfortunately as a technician, I understand this just has to be, unless we (the customers) pay for the cost of engineering and manufacturing that “idiot-proofing” into the board.

That being said, I have read multiple people had an issue that HLG always makes right, Diablo boards or otherwise (or trys their best, ie: hook you up with a functioning returned board if possible).

@Babalonian im assuming since the Diablo 200 is pre assembled one wouldn’t have to worry about frying some diodes? I contacted HLG and they confirmed 1 year warranty but they will hook me up if I ever have an issue with it past the 1 year mark. So, hlg sounds pretty legit.
