A Fun Grow

So I had some seeds laying around above what I am going to plant for this season. I was bored and waiting to start something so I tossed 3 seeds into a bowl of water to soak overnight. The lights that I have are not anything special just 2 florescent fixtures with 2 33 watt garden tubes. Since I already have the seeds for the plants that I want to grow I can give these to my neighbour when the time comes to place then outside. This is the earliest I have ever started seeds and I am just experimenting with the nutes I have.

23/03..... placed seeds in water to soak overnight.
24/03.....placed seeds between paper towels on a plate and on a heat mat but covered them from the light ( See pic's 1 2
27/03.... All seeds sprouted (see pic 3) and were placed in Jiffy pots (see pic 4) Note that they are not all the same due to different sprouting times
29/03.....Today was a nice day, full sun and 65 degrees in the greenhouse so I took them for a walk and left them there for 4 hours.

Fun Grow continued:
30/03..... Too cold to take the plants outside today . Greenhouse is in the high 30's low 40's so in they stay but I decided to mix up the first set of nutes that I will be using this year. Plant Prod JM line. Instructions say 1 gram of Boost per 2 liters of water. I watered just pouring into the dish and allow the jiffy pellet to suck it up. (see pic 1) below.
01/04.....Plant is starting to look a little too tall gave a feeding tonight. (See pic 2)
02/04..... One of the plants is not ready yet to be repotted so just the 2 of them were. Too cold for outside so they just got watered with the nute mixture.

You really might want to wait on giving them any supplemental feeding. They really don't want or need it at this point. It could be very detrimental for the health of those young plants. I know Plant Prod advises you to feed them in the first week. I believe most growers would advise against it though. I know I would not.

Thank you for the reply. But that is why this is a fun grow. I am testing things. The last 2 seasons, except for 2 plants, I have grown unknown seeds with no fertilizers and water right out of the tap. This year I am trying 2 auto's and 2 White Widow's. These seeds are from last years grow. I totally agree with you on using nutes as early as I did but I wanted to try it. I guess the best thing would have been to use the nutes on 2 plants and not the third one for proper testing. Also the chart that Plant Prod has is for Auto's or at least plants grown inside under proper light controlled conditions. Again thank you for the input.

a couple of good lessions to learn are, KISS Keep It Simple Stupid and less is more. you can allways add nutrients, but you cant take them away.

for testing, i would chose just the one plant and see how it go's. if it were me, thats what i would do

I think I did that you the last 2 seasons. And both of them I was trying to harvest before the frost came

I have over 150 unknown seeds that I have collected and legally I can only grow 4 plants. Some of the seeds are years old that is why I started 3 hoping that at least 1 or 2 would sprout. When they all sprouted I figured what the heck plant em all!

Today is day 9 since the sprouts were placed in the jiffy pots and they got to go to the greenhouse where it was 75f. The exact same process has been used on each plant and at no time have they ever been more than 1.5 feet apart. They seem to not be growing equally, not that I expected them to, but there is quite a difference between them. First pic is them in the greenhouse when they went in today. They were there for 6 hours I decided to bring them in tonight due to lower temps. The plant still in the jiffy pot is not going to make it. When I brought it in tonight it was laying down and not looking good. The plant in the second pic is the plant that looks the best. It has started to set it's second set of leaves and looks great. The last plant is the one that sprouted second and it is taller than I want it to be. There was no feeding today at all. Tomorrow is supposed to be the same as today so they will like go back out again

It is day 11 and the plants are now in the greenhouse until something tells me to move them. When I mixed the nutes I used 1 gram of Plant Prod Boost mixed into 2 liters of water. I still have 3/4 of that mix and that is what I am using to water. aprox. 1 ounce of water a day keeps them wet enough. Second set of true leaves is now forming.

So here we are at day 13. These plants have been in the greenhouse for 5 days. Anyone who read above knows each plant has been treated the same. They never been more than 1.5 ft apart and fed Plant Prod Boost at 1 gram mixed into 2 liters of water at each watering since they were placed in jiffy pots. Each watering was approx, 1-2 oz. once per day. The temps in the greenhouse have been as low as 45f overnight and as high as 85f in the day. The greenhouse is closed at night but the door is open and the roof vent is automatic and begins to open at 70F. Also note that I have topped up the pots with soil as it has settled with watering. Pic 1 is the same as plant in pic 1 in post above. Pic 2 is same as Pic 2 in post above. Pic 3 is both plants side by side.

As an aside these plants are to be given away as soon as they can be planted outside for the summer. My neighbour is preparing pots for them now. For my own grow I have started my seeds for this year. See pic 4. The plate with the yellow paper on it are 2 seeds of Fem. White Widow. 1 seed has started a taproot, ( see pic 5 ) the second seed has split but not sent out a root yet. They will go into jiffy pots in a day or so. 1 will be in a large pot the other will be in the ground. The plate with the green paper is an Auto Dwarf Low flyer it has not split yet. The shot glass is Northern Lights Auto that will go between paper towels in the morning. These 2 auto plants will be going into 5 gallon grow bags and I am toying with the idea of growing 1 in the greenhouse for the entire grow.

So the season has begun. I know that everyone has a different way of doing things and I welcome any opinions or comments.

The best laid plans sometimes need to be altered. The first pic is the 2 plants that will be given away. As for the seeds that are germinating it is not going as planned. I was not expecting a cold front to move in and stay for a few days. In pic 2 there are 2 plants, the one on the right is 1 of the fem. White Widow and the one on the left is Dwarf Low Flyer. I can not move these out to the greenhouse until Saturday when it is supposed to warm up. I am somewhat worried that they will get too leggy before then. The third pic is the 2nd White Widow trying to sprout. In the last post I mentioned a Northern Lights Auto. Well that seed is a bit of a problem. The seed did germinate but the sprout crawled up the side of the seed instead of away from it. Then it just stopped. So now it is sitting sprout side down, in a jiffy pot, on a heating pad with a dome cover over it. I hope that it will start in there and if not I have a second seed soaking. 23/03..... placed seeds in water to soak overnight. That was 4 weeks and 1 day ago. The plants have been in the greenhouse since April 5 and the temp have been as high as 75F during the day and as low as 45 overnight. Yesterday I had to bring them in due to temp dropping below freezing and 3" of snow in the forecast. They are still being watered at rate of 1-2 oz per day with the same fertilizer mix as above. I am also considering topping one of the give away plants. just not sure when. The 2 other pots are the Fem. White Widow and Dwarf Low Flyer.

I think that the weather has decided to be on my side today. Everyone except for 2 seeds that have not broke the soil yet got to go out to the greenhouse today. It got up to 75F but going down to about low 50s tonight. The 2 original plants are looking nice and they are working on the 4th set of leaves. The 2 leggy plants on the left are a fem White Widow and the Dwarf Low Flyer. I can fix that when I pot them in the final places. The two dishes that have the paper stuck to them are Auto Northern Lights and the last 2 are seeds that came from a bag of OG Kush as are the 2 seeds that did not go out.

Today the 2 plants have been changed over to Grow nutes. I do not really trust the scale that I have when trying to weigh less than a gram. The program that I had intended to use said 0.08/1.2 G/L. I made the mix at 0.05/L G/L and they got 1/2 liter between the 2 pots today. The taller plant on the left is setting out its 5th set of true leaves and the one on the right is 1 set of leaves behind it.

Just posting pic's of 2 plants that I started. The third plant had an accident and ended up in the compost bin. The plant in the first pic is 1 set of leaves ahead of the other plant. I am considering topping that plant. It is a the fifth set of leaves.

The tallest of the plants just got a haircut.

Got out to the greenhouse today and decided to repot the test plants. These plants had very nice root system. (See pic 1) They got repotted to 2 gallon buckets and deep enough to cover the first leaves, not true leaves. (see pic 2) I said earlier that I did not trust my scale and I was right. What I have been feeding is 0.5g/950ml water. What it should have been is 0.67g/950ml. The 3rd pic is the plant that had a haircut 2 days ago.

so far so good i have 2 unknowns i just popped last week too all we can do is try

Pic 1 is the plant that got cut 2 days ago. It looks like it is doing well and when it has 3 sets of leaves on each of the new limbs I will consider the next cut. Pic 2 is my first attempt at training a plant. Right now it is bent over to 1 side and I will see what happens from there. I never tried this before so any suggestions are welcome. At this point I am feeding Grow and Cal-kick on alternating days. I am considering using Epsom salts to mix a foliar spray to add mag. to the plant. I have read most places to use 2 teaspoons per gallon alternately I thought about mixing some into the top layer of soil and let it leech into the soil.
