A good time to turn to 12/12?

Does anybody think this plant could be put into flower at this point?

Another thing is, the pot is 5" tall, when should I transplant? I use root riot placed in lots of rockwool growcubes [the tiny ones]. I have read that in hydro I can go straight to my finishing pot, however I found this means the pot remains heavy with water for a long time after transplant... because the plant is so small and the pot so big. Would I just not water for like 2 weeks?

Any ideas anyone, input etc... Help appreciated as always.

I'd get the plant into a pot now. Water lightly if your medium is very water retentive and if need be don't water for as long as it takes to be dry enough to re-water. As soon as the plants gets bigger and more roots it won't be a problem and I'd transplant and wait a week before switching to 12/12 or veg longer if you like. Plant looks nice and healthy.

@cazador: Thanks for the reply. Problem with changing pots now is that my veg space becomes compromised with the addition of a 11ltr pot. I'll try to make it work though. Thanks she is nice and healthy, for once :)

@bigv1976: 12/12 from seed hey? I have a 12/12 from seed going, in fact the above plant was planted a week before the 12/12 from seed plant that I have, same strain too. The difference in size is considerable though. After the 12/12 from seed one sprouted and put into flowering, it took over a week just to begin growing properly. It only just has a second set of true leaves. I can't see the value in no vegging, but I know people swear by it... they must be doing something better than me. Maybe I will see an explosion in growth soon and change my mind... but still a little sceptical.

BigV it will still take around 3 months to start from 12/12 from seed cuz the plant isnt mature enough untill about 3-6 weeks depending on the strain so its worth it to do a veg perioid!!!!!!!

A good time to go to 12/12 is as soon as you plant the seed.

I agree, although I have heard that doing 12/12 saves you 2 or so weeks when compared to having a 4 week veg period. I think minimum veg should really be 3 weeks, the plant above is 3 weeks old. From experience I can say a 3 week veg under CFLs can produce a very decent yield. At least an oz of dry dank bud. However a 4 week veg has always produced monsters... actually too much weed for my personal purposes, which is why I usually do just 3 weeks vegging now.

Ehhh... yeah if you want a really really shitty fucking yield bro.

You have to give the plants some kind of veg. period (AT LEAST!! a week..) but usually 2 to three weeks is good enough. That at least gives the plant enough time to establish a good root system. Remember.. if you want bigger buds and more of them (bigger yields).. you should give your plant at least 2 weeks worth of veg. If not three... I usually go for 2.5 weeks myself.. lol.

I've tried the 12/12 from seed plenty of times.. and wasn't very happy with the yields. The most total yield I've ever gotten from going to 12/12 from seed.. I think was right around 7.5 grams?? might have been 9grams. Which.. I guess if you have no patience.. or your in a big ass hurry then yeah I guess going straight to 12/12 is alright. But again.. I like having enough buds to where I know I'll have enough to smoke on for a long time. That's why I suggest going at two weeks for veg phases. At the very freaking least.. give them a week...

Hope this helped educate at least one person.

peace.

just my input if it helps..
try going 18/6 or 20/4 before 12/12, my plants grew tremendously after i switched to some sleep time. good luck!

your plants need time to veg so they can develop a strong root system which will give you bigger flowers and more of them. there is nothing to say you can't go 12/12 from seed but your harvest will be much smaller than if you gave the plant 3-5 weeks of veg growth time. but it again its your call. i've tried all different approaches over my 35 years of growing and prefer about 4 weeks of vegging after the two weeks of going through the "seedling stage" so in essence its 6 weeks from spout to 12/12.

By the way, you may have 1000 excellent reasons to discredit everything I just said, compared to your experience, well let's just say I have not even learned to crawl... it's just ideas and shit man... i'd rather be you than me :)

Now, there's an educated and experienced grower. He/She is exactly right about that too. Which is the same thing I try and explain to these '12/12 from seed fanatics' but I don't think it does any good.

You really need to be patient with Cannabis.. its going to take its time if it wants to.. but then again.. some times.. you get the ones that are quick growers.. and mature much faster than others. It's got everything to do with genetics.. and the plants environment.. as to what will influence how fast/quick your plants will grow.

anyhow, I'm just thankful that someone else around here.. besides me.. realizes that plants need the veg. cycle in order to give it time to produce and develop nice healthy roots. Remember.. the bigger the root system is.. the bigger your yield will be. But again, try explaining that to the people that think they can get more yield from a 12/12 grow... than someone can if they were to give their plant(s) a couple weeks worth of veg.

Thanks for taking the words right from my mouth Shannonball. Also, 35 years of growing?!?!?! Sheeesh! I've only got 2 years of actual growing experience.. 3 years if you add in all the reading I do. LOL... which I can't express enough how important it is.. to read! and read and read and read... especially if your new to growing. That's how I got to where I'm at now.. just reading and experimenting with past grows.

anyhow, I'm gonna get off here and go smoke a bowl.

Peace.
