A Grow to Pass the Time. (aka waiting for my seed order)

Well I placed a seed order recently after the two freebies I planted didn't make it past germination. In the meantime, I had some random bag seed that came from some good bud that I figure I'd experiment on.

My seed order for those that want to know:
10 Nirvana - Northern Lights
5 Kannabia - White Domina Auto

And now for the grow!

Current Setup
Stealth cabinet inside my desk (still unfinished)
Three 23w 2700k CFLs
Fox Farm Ocean Forest
Neptune's Harvest Fish and Seaweed Blend Fertilzer (2-3-1)
Grandma's Unsulfered Molasses (might use Organic Blue Agave Syrup)

One 23w and Two 13w 2700k bulbs
4" inline fan
htgsupply carbon scrubber

For this grow I'm going to use 12/12 from seed just to see what I can do with it using my setup. I know my yields are going to be lower, but it's bagseed so I just want to play.

Wednesday, November 17th
Placed 14 viable bagseeds into a glass of distilled water to germinate.

Thursday, November 18th
1 seed already successfully germinated. Taproot approximately 1/10 of an inch long. The seed was placed in a makeshift container, made from the bottom of a water bottle. It was planted into the soil slightly deeper than the height of the seed.

Friday, November 19th
2 more seeds successfully germinated. Placed into makeshift containers.

Sunday, November 21st
Only one of the seeds made it through planting so far. The cracked seed appeared peering out of the top of the soil. Success! It's growing a lot faster than I originally thought it would.

Tuesday, November 23rd
Seed shell fell of, and it's cotyledons are out!

Sunday, November 28th (Day 5)
The seedling is looking great. Second set of true leaves have appeared. It's a brilliant smooth green color, no signs of any issues so far. Cab temps are staying steady at 82-86 degrees. Although the stem appears to be strong, the seedling has been leaning quite a bit. I've had plenty of air moving on the stem the entire time the light is on (should I have the fan blowing during the dark period also?) but it is still falling over the side. After a few days of wrestling the stem to stand up using a pen laid across the top of the container, I decided to transplant it into a larger container. My hopes were that if the new soil were packed higher on the stem, it would be sturdier. After transplanting I watered with the neptunes harvest and put it back under the lights.

I heard the faint click of my timer activating and turning on my setup. I anxiously peaked in on my baby and she is looking GREAT! I can already see the benefits of the nutes. As for the stem, it seems to be doing great. It feels very secure in the soil, even though it's not packed super tight. It's standing on it's own no problem.




How's she look?

It's looking real good. Nice growth on it, doesn't seem to be stretching to my lights too much. I was thinking I may have to water today but I'm going to wait a day or two and then start introducing the molasses.

Do you guys think I should use the molasses or the organic agave syrup?

I ended up watering my baby last night before I put it to bed. Smaller containers never hold their water as long as the big ones. I used a bit of the agave syrup, not much of it, probably 1/2 Tbsp.

I think it's looking awesome. How long do you think it will take to show sex doing 12/12 from seed?

It looks like my crappy camera is showing almost a yellowish tint on the leaves. I tried fixing the white-balance as much as I could but I can't get it to go away.

I saw you got no replies, but looks like a good grow while your just passing time!

I should have tested my grow cab on a 12/12 schedule from seed, I ran out of room...I would love to see a pic of your setup in your desk, by the way. I have a similar idea. +rep for your thorough descriptions. I will subscribe.

Thanks man! I was starting to think my grow was too boring for everyone haha. I will get detailed pics of my desk tomorrow. It's not done, so it looks UGLY haha, but no shame here. You say you ran out of room in your cab. Did you do any sort of LST or topping techniques? Everyone is telling me if I train my plant enough I could grow some of the larger strains in my small space. We'll see how this one grows, I may not need to train it since I'm doing 12/12 but we'll have to see.

On another note, it's starting to smell like a nice skunk already! I didn't think it could have possibly started to smell yet. It's not radiating skunk, but if you smell the new leaf sets it STINKS!

i have checked out quite a few grow journals and yours is concise and coherent. nothing to be embarrassed about it just means you have a blank slate to work with. are you looking into an HPS and fan/filter combo? how much money are you looking to spend? how much space are you working with?

Yeah I want to do an HPS. I'm thinking of using a 150w right now because considering the size of the reflector and the size of the containers I'm gonna use, I won't have a ton of room for plants. I'm hoping to have enough room for that! I know with my CFL's I can get my plants within less than an inch as long as I keep the heat down. I'm not sure how close I can get to an HPS.

The total size of my cabinet is: 25.625" tall x 27.5" wide x 21.75" deep.

The left chamber, which my grow is in now is: 25.625" x 11" wide x 21.75" deep.

The right chamber is: 25.625" tall x 14.125" wide x 21.75" deep.

I checked out the fan/filter combo from htgsupply. It looks great. It would even be overkill if I made both chambers into one. I'll probably pick it up, you can't argue with the price either.

Heres my setup

Heres the outside. I know, bit of a light leak. But this desk is also located in a closet that gets closed up when I put her to bed. I actually sat on top of the desk with the doors closed and the lights in the room off (she sleeps when I sleep) and let my eyes adjust to make sure I didn't have light leak from the TV.



This is the left chamber as it sits now. Once I get the 'Y' adapters, the power strip will be relocated to the ceiling of the chamber. I'll be using 3 adapters so I can add three bulbs. Two sets of 23w CFL's on the ends and a set of 13w in the middle socket. I think that puts me ~8000+ lumens which isn't to bad I guess. I also bought a piece of 1/8" MDF which is getting nailed to the back of the desk tomorrow. Right now it has that crap cardboard desk backing you get from walmart grade furniture. This side has the back out because this is where my computer tower used to sit.



This is the right chamber which is slightly wider. I took off the divider extension I made so I can get some light into this chamber for my cheap camera. The chambers aren't sealed from each other, so I made a cheap extension of the middle bracing board. It's not pretty but it works.

you are going to run out of height very fast in that cab. have you thought about setting up in the closet itself? or maybe buy/ make a tent? what you have now is perfect for veg but you will want more space and more light when you start to flower. also you can increase the effectivity of your cfls if you put a reflector above them. there is a great thread about a DIY cfl reflector made out of a soda can.

Yeah I know I'm going to run out of room quickly. I'll be using as much LST as I can to keep the size down. I also plan on using short plants. This one could be short or it could not, I'm not worried about it since it's all about experimenting. The strains that will be run through it next are Northern Lights (which is known for being a short bush anyway) and White Domina Autoflower. I'm also this grow and the NL 12/12 from seed. Combined with keeping them in small pots (using smart watering I think I can keep them from getting root bound) I think I can maximize my space.

I'm gonna check out the reflectors right now and see if I can get it set up.

I've thought about using the closet but I think I want to stick to micro growing for the next few harvests. I have an eight month old son, so my smoking habit has close to disappeared. I only smoke at nights, and usually not even go through a gram of mids each night. So I don't mind the yield of a micro grow, and anything I can produce will be better than crap mids that are around me. I've seen nice quality buds with a decent yield come out of 17 inch tall computer cases so I know it's possible.

If I wanted a few extra inches (say... 4 or 5) I could remove the floor to the chambers. I'd like to be able to fit a 150w HPS in there, if not I can get by with CFL's. I can pick up a 125w CFL with reflector for cheap as hell. I have a friend that would buy the CFL off of me so I could move up to an HPS once I get rid of the desk and move to a big cab.
