A Hasty Grow

Well first off, Hello a newface here with some questions.
I started my first grow and was wondering if I could get some input on the problems i'm having. Ive tried to search to see if I could single it out myself but I do believe I have a multitude of problems.
Im using roughly a 6-7 gallon pot with miracle grow potting soil, I have a 150watt sodium light about 8 inches from the pot and a oscillating fan for cooling and airflow. Im on my third day and Im seeing somethings that dont look right to me. Any input on how to tweek what I have going on would be great.

PotPics 781.jpgPotPics 782.jpgPotPics 784.jpgPotPics 785.jpgPotPics 786.jpgPotPics 788.jpg

With the blanket covering the area its about 3ftx4.5ft Enough for me to sit in there and stare for hours :)
in the third picture at the end of the leaf since its existence its had that deadish spot, should I just remove it? or how to recover it
and in the fourth pic in the two smaller new-leaves the top one has a yellowish tip, is that over water or me neglecting more nutrients?
in the 5th picture im seeing the bigger leaf kinda bend down, that also lead me to believe that the yellowish color on the new leaves was from over watering.

I'm new to everything and I did start this kind of on the spot, Im using white russian seeds (3 days since seed went into dirt).
I like criticism and I don't mind being flamed for what im doing wrong so let me know please and thank you.!

With the MG and the amount of water that you may mistakenly add due to the water pooling at the bottom I'd suggest you repot immediately with a smaller pot and a less nute heavy medium.

How warm does your light get? It may be just a little to close for seedlings, and it's better to start out in smaller pots and transplant up. Especially for a newer grower because if you overwater or underwater and get the roots circling you can fix em when you transplant. You can do alright with miracle grow sometimes the seedlings don't lie it though, just give em and chance and they'll usually pull through

So I'm over doing the MG intake for it? and I used a dropper to water it the first two days and this morning i noticed these problems.

and i believe the lights at 180 degrees cel; should i just keep it at 12 inches away?
how careful of roots am i going to have to be if i re pot it, idk how deep/wide they would be right now. Ive done research but I'm always second guessing myself due to no experience.
Also should i just put it in a cup for now? its over 3inches right now

Looks happier, let it get drier before you water it.

Is that a rockwool cube it's been germed in?

If it's just vegging you should be fine with that for now, if I were you I would work on a sealed flowering space to prevent light leaks.

You say you're using an HPS, this is more suited to flower but is fine for vegging in a pinch.

And I know you just repotted, but when you move up to a bigger pot feel free to bury the stem up to the first set of leaves. The buried stem will eventually root and add stability to your little lady.

Good luck my friend.

Well no I didn't use the rockwool, I just used the plain ol' paper towel and baggy under the lamp. I did notice I left alot of space between the leaf and dirt after my last post so I did go ahead and instantly redid the potting and lighting.
Its white russian, i have two at the moment one just sprouted today and the other is what you see, but about the "light leaks" how tight should i make that room? or can I leave it how it is now and just seal it more?
Heres whats going on now

Well i'm getting better cover for the space I have thank you, also with the repotting will the yellowing go away or do I still need to add something to it? Should I be doing 18-6, because a friend who started me on this just told me to go ahead and do 24 hours for now; is that a good idea?

24/7 is fine for seedlings, tho not necessary, and power use will of course be bigger ..

18/6 is what I have best experience with, get a timer if you don't have one, you will also need it in flowering so you don't mess up the 12/12 (specially the dark hours)

talking about that, you really need a way to block all light out doing dark hours in flowering and I don't see any ventilation either ?

a 4" vent with some dutch on that reflector hood would do wonders for both temps and air flow, plants need fresh air/co2 and if you later on also want some odour control you will also need a carbon filter

sumthing like this:

I did actually start out a little like you

DSC00348.jpg

seems like years ago and I fell like a nub looking at it now :D

but I did`t know either, unless you grow a Auto you will need to block the light out some how doing 12/12 and I mean ALL !! light
and once flowering they WILL !!! stink .. a lot !

so a closed room and a ventilation system is a must (if you want to grow seriously and not just have a half bad looking flimsy plant in the corner that never will yield you much quality smoke)

I build my self a room and you could do the same in your location, agin similar to me, I did just take last meter of my room and made a fake wall so to speak ..

To be honest I didnt think about the ventilation, it is mighty hot in there. I dont ever have to worry smells due to neighbors wanting to see some great results too later on, Its in the corner of my closet right now would I be able to just run a ventilation pipe through the cover of what I have now without the end of the pipe leaving my closet. Would that still be enough fresh air/co2 transfer? My closets pretty dark but would I have to worry about the small amounts of light in the crack of my closet being able to make its way through the ventilation into the room during dark hours?

yes no light leaks please, do some research here, but even a small single LED light on a fan/timer have fukcd up peoples grows and made plants stress and hermit (getting male flowers = seeds)

when some one is testing there grow room they sit in the dark for +5 minutes and then they shouldn't be able to set squat .. that how light tight it need to be, may I suggest you to grow Auto`s instead if that is`t sumthing you like or are able to archive ..

Auto`s dont care and will flower after 2-4 weeks of grow no matter the light schedule, I believe most run Auto strains 18/6 from start to end ..

and about odour, sure neighbors and safety is N01 but you also have to live in there, right ? when my fist two small plants began to flower I could hardly stay in my apartment, not to talk about sleeping, two hours with the filter on my ventilation and it was cleared 100% and I could sleep, think about it, hopefully +4 Oz of buds, plus leaf`s aso and wet not in a bag, think how much it will smell when its in your room 24/7

and ventilation is a must, not only for heat and odour control but also to provide the plants fresh air and specially Co2

Well its achievable I just have to think of a good way because I cant use wood/drywall, I have to mainly stick to cloth/tarp.

yea well, not trying to dish you or take all the fun out of it for you, just trying to help you and prepare you for what to come, would suck to have hermi plants full of seeds that make your apartment/neighborhood stink after 2 months of hard work and expectations ..

p.s.

you also need to look in to temps and humidity

best temps is between 75 and 80F doing light hours and a RH of 30-60% tho early on plants like it moist so a RH on +50% is advisable in Veg wile 30-40% is about right in flowering if you don't want to struggle with mold and fungus aso.

here is a nice "guide" I have used many times to look up stuff:

http://www.420magazine.com/forums/frequently-asked-questions/83112-how-grow-cannabis-everything-you-need-know.html

can answer many basic questions, still use it now and then when in doubt ..

Yeah dude Co2 is definitely the way to go the only downside is the machines are super expensive running around almost 200 bucks a pop and then with the air ducts and the vent you are lookin at about 250 bones man. Thats a lot lol. yeah and you definitely want that humidity up, so the plants dont dry out, i suggest just leaving a bucket of water around if you cant afford anything else lol, or wet rags. happy growing sir

Is it bad that I go sit in there for 30 minutes every two hours? Ive been up all night building a new room, I have an old humidifier from when I was sick as a kid; is that something that could be useful in this situation?
I think its just the humidity now, all the yellowing is gone just the leaves are a little dry and papery
