A Newbie with really complicated requirements

Hey guys,

I'm from Bangalore, India. I want to grow marijuana for personal use. I find consuming it very helpful in holistic(simply put) approach towards life. However I'm not very happy with the options available around me. They are not very consistent in quality or strain. As a result I'm planning to grow on my own.
I have the following seeds

1)5 Jack Herer
2)5 Blue dream
3)2 Sour Diesel
4)1 White Shark
5) 1 Afghan Haze
6)1 Herijuana jack
All Feminized seeds.

I have a growing space of (B*h*L in inches) 30'' * 36 '' * 18'' and 30'' * 18'' * 18''.
I can use only CFLs(2-4). I can put small fans (Though I don't prefer to).
I want to grow 2 plants. One sativa dominant(i'm thinking jack herer) and one indica dominant. I like to enjoy, experience both.
Next is I want quick harvests(at the expense of yield;I dont need much. Only for smoking and cooking and making hash (optional) ) because at times my folks might come home to visit me and I have to dismantle the whole setup and remove all traces.
My grow room is going to be a wooden cabinet with lights(with fan if needed).
I'm planning to grow through soil. If there are hydrophonic alternatives whose raw materials are easily sourceable please suggest.
Also I want to take seeds(to setup after dismantling) also cos i dont find it safe and affordable to order seeds online all the time.
I dont want the plant to grow big either.
I don't mind taking care of it everyday if needed.

average outside Temperature 20-30. my room will be a little warmer and less humid.

Please help me out.

Thanks in Advance,

biggest piece of advice I can give is.... follow the variables.
Temp humidity, light schedules, nutrients, Ph, etc as closely as possible.
I ignored checking the Ph for a few grows because I thought my bottled water made my mix superior...
WRONG! All my plants would get to budding and have serious problems because my soil ended up getting too acidic.
A $15 Ph kit fixed that for me. I felt so stupid for wasting so much time and money just to save $15...ruined two grow cycles before I wised up.
Dont ignore your Ph...always test the Ph of your nutrients/water before feeding.
just some personal experience that I hope no one else encounters.

I'm curing some Jack from CH9 right now.... it's pretty good ;)

Its definitely doable. I would probably try to somehow increase the height if at all possible, especially for those sativa strains (BTW--jack herer, blue dream and sour diesel are awwwwwesoooome (high pitched voice) but you will be looking at slightly longer flower times for those or any other sativa. Just something to think about if you are going to grow and indica and a sativa at the same time).

You will definitely need some fans in there, at the very least try to have an intake and a slightly stronger exhaust so they can get some fresh(ish) air, not to mention wind blowing on them/shaking them will make your stems stronger, which will help your yield.

You can start out with two CFL's (one over each plant at first) but I would try and at least put in two more as they get bigger, and as many as you can possibly fit for flowering.

The biggest problem newbies run into using CFL's is that they don't quite get enough light. It winds up resulting in stringy, airy, home-grownish scraggle buds

Yeah, if you are going hydro pH is an absolute MUST to follow, but generally remembering this one rule will help you--

Advanced nutrients, whether synthetic or something like aurora's roots organic line, will make the pH of your water low as shit.

I would at least get the pH indicator solution that changes the color of your water sample based on pH. That way you can check the pH of your water from the faucet, as well as what your nutes do to it. Generally pH plus (something to make your pH more alkaline or basic) is all you will need, unless the pH of your water is like mine and comes out at 7.5-8. In that case you would take your pH down whenever you were giving them just water, and take it up when you add nutes.

I put a little dolomite lime in my soil. Not sure if its available in your area but it really helps buffer the soil, and provides long term calcium and magnesium which is a must if you don't have cal-mag.

I grow 12x12 from seed to harvest & love it.
It cuts down on yield a little.
It's quick,first grow I had 1/4 lb off 4 plants in 1 bucket in 2 months.
Once you get your grow dialed in,you start to work on yield to get all you can.
GL.

edit;There is a thread on here 12x12fs

when did you do a hydro grow?.....when?
Why, am I wrong? Lol

75% of newbie postings (in hydro) of people having problems with the health of their plants go like this:

"What deficiency does my plant have, its dying" when it isn't a deficiency at all. Its generally a salt build up from failing to flush, or just over feeding/ nute burn in general.

Plus, it doesn't take a genius to know that if you are going hydro, or Hempy style for that matter, then the only stuff going into your roots are what you give them. So there isn't anything there to help get your pH where you want it like in soil, which will buffer the pH of your water after it goes in. Hydro can't buffer like that BC there isn't anything to buffer it, so you just have to make sure its right as its going in.

So let's not hijack this thread trying to make people look like idiots.

And he's right, 18 inches is going to be REALLY tough to work with, in terms of height.

Ninja bowler obviously knows this BC he has grown in an 18" cab before, nyuck nyuck 8)

Welcome,

I did notice a few issues in your plan that need to be worked out prior to starting.

CFL's (T4) are a great place to start but still produce heat so you will need a fan like others stated. Even if you do something like this would work great and still be stealthy.
IMG_2555.jpg

Get a couple 120-240mm or so PC fans Put one at the (back) bottom of the locker blowing in and one at the top blowing out. (As heat rises)

86F is not bad but with the enclosed area and lamps you will easily reach 100F. 95F is your max for super growing. (That's a whole another story. )

I like you're seed choices and Thor was correct watching your PH is important but don't over parent especially for your first few grows. Use no nute soil and low nute solution to learn how to prevent issue's first; not learning how to recover from them first.

Also you only want to grow two plants at a time, yet you want seeds and to shorten grow time. Unless you're starting with some sort of quick flowering hermie's that's not possible. CORRECT seeds come from a male and female mating, so you need at-least two plants there, males don't make smoke-able Cannabis.

As for hydroponics, it will increase your yield and decrease your grow time. However it adds to cost and noise and is harder to remove/clean up in a pinch.

Lastly if you're going to go cabinet stealthy then you don't need to dismantle it. Just build it inconspicuous, lock it up and turn off the lights if they seep through the box. The're are probably plenty of grow boxes you never knew you leaned on or sat next to in a house. If smell's an issue, get used to burning sage.

What else do you need help with? Have you read the posts under this section and others for growing, watering, lighting, nutes, hydro, tents, etc?

Great advice blujay. Some good stuff in there.

OP-- you didn't specify if you were going hydro or soil. I definitely suggest going soil at least your first time through, BC its more forgiving (easier, quite frankly) and you won't even have to really pay TOO much attention to your pH. I still recommend at least checking the pH of your water supply at first so you know if it might be crazy, and in need of adjustment.

And like blujay also pointed out-- you are better off under-doing it with your nutes the first time then trying to push the envelope, and having to spend time figuring out how to nurse your plants back to health.

Edit: less is always more with this plant. Don't go crazy with nutes unless your experimenting and don't mind losing the plant.
