A Query For You Indoor Tree Growers

Let's say you're using a 600W HPS. What's the maximum height to grow 1-2 plants before diminished canopy penetration makes any additional vertical growth pointless? I know a 1000W lamp would be better suited for growing trees indoors, but I was curious how much I could potentially push my 600.

it never gets pointless, but it's customary to prune all lowers to increase production to the canopy. everything in the shade is going to produce minimally. here's a picture of 8 dwc plants trained into and even canopy with trimmed lowers....

here is a chart that shows some distances. it may give you some idea. i have only used a 400 watt, so i cant really comment on a 600 watt.

Thanks for the input, guys. Additional comments/opinions are welcome if anyone else cares to weigh in.

the plants shown were vegged to 14'' and topped. laterals were allowed to catch the cut top, then plants were flowered (about 6 days after topping).

would also depend on the strain, some get by just fine if there is a good canopy, ive had plants up 6ft on a 600w hps and had them up 6ft on a 400w hps, lower buds all looked good nice and tight, i like to just grow 100% indicas fast to flower and i grow under both 600 & 400 i do get better results under the 600w light, i like to keep mine 2/3ft stocky and easy to harvest etc, short stems thick with bud.

Very interesting. I tend to stick to indicas myself so I'll keep that in mind. I'm also thinking about supercropping to help deal with the canopy. Right now I only veg for a month and by the time they're ready to be cropped, it's time for me to switch to 12/12. Soma says not do any cropping for two weeks prior to flowering.

I remove all the lower stuff 1 week before 12/12 then when i flick the clock their over what ive removed and seem to go for it.
