A question for Pit Bull owners

I know one of my pits has a real bad flea allergy and if I'm not very diligent about regular treatments he starts to scratch so bad he loses patches of hair and his skin gets dry. A bath and a good flea treatment for him and a bombing of the house fixes it every time.

The Pitt is my son's dog. I've done what I can for the poor bastard. Come Tuesday I'm outta here with my dog. I just feel sorry for him. I got him some allergy pills from the vet for flea allergies, and they helped out quite a bit, and he's not scratcking himself raw anymore. Not much else I can do for him, I have let it be known that I lost some respect for my son when I saw him buy a video game ($65) and a 3-D phone rather than take the dog to the vet. That is low down. But he IS only 24.

You and I both know that CB, but what ya gonna do? Feel sorry for the dog. In almost every other area he's uber responsible, but he's learning things on a different time frame than I did. My priorities were different than his at that age.

Oh no, I agree. Your son is past the age of reason, or at least independence. (One's own children are ... forever children, no?) All you can do now is suggest, suggest, suggest.
The omega-three thing intrigues me. I wonder if the dog in question would enjoy having an omega-three-rich oil (like hazelnut or walnut, or fish liver) applied directly to the affected areas. Licking those off is gonna be nutritious as well. cn

Definitely . It took me a lot of pets to understand that . Most of them were other peoples . One was a puppy that I got from the pound with parvo . I spent over $700 on that puppy and would have spent all I had on him but he passed away at the vets after being hospitalized for a week . I love my dogs , they sleep right next to me . My lab and pit/lab mix get itchy real bad without the omega - 3

Aside from the fact that the constant scratching annoys the wife (Fuck her, she's gone in a while anyway) I'm worried about the comfort and quality of life of the dog.
I cannot afford to take him to the vet, and really neither can my son, although I have told him that he cannot afford NOT to.
I have been giving him hydroxazine (an antihistamine) for the itching, but I want to know if the breed is susceptible, or more prone to skin conditions or allergies? I'm getting the money together to get him to the vet, but I'm unemployed due to just getting out of jail, and my son has just started his own business and is living with me to keep that going right now.
ANY help or advise from someone who has Pits will be much appreciated.

call some vets to see what they say. it could be cheep to get taken care of. or the dog could be a physo. maybe he is trying to catch his tail.

get some salmon oil put it in his food... also eliminate beef and or corn from his diet..
