A special needs hood?

I plan on using one as well but two are nice if you feel the need ;).
The reason im not going with a double as most people use it is because #1 i think that putting glass over a hood in a small grow is stupid, and 2 I have no reliable source of intake nearby. I can't cut into another room, and I dont think that taking intake from outside is a good idea.

Actually if you can, intake from outside is a good thing. Not saying it has to be through the light though and if you don't need a cool tube type then great. I use passive intake from outdoors and exhaust from the hoods but shut the thing down in 3-4 weeks due to heat

area is roughly 4x4 maybe 5x5 depending on how i space them. In about a 10x10ish bedroom. but i'm probably going to go down in number of plants when i switch to hydro in the fall. Right now i've got 9 in a bedroom under a 600watt.

so rigging some thing near the hood with flexible is helpful?

actually the PAR count as well as uva and uvb lost through the glass are a bit significant.
Saw a YouTube video last night & tried to find it but couldn't but anyways find monster grow channel if you can. There's s grow store guy on there talking about the topic. You are right you can lose 7% through the glass plus some uvb light but that still doesn't compel me to remove the glass. My hood is good for my space but if you've got a very large open area a parabolic might work. Small reflectors that focus the light down on your plants are better than large apparently but I always thought the opposite was true.
Pulling the heat out through a duct works for me but this guy was saying over a 20 ft length hear is released back in your grow area. So yeah maybe you are on to something here

I keep my window open for some passive intake, and when the weather is right I use a window fan to bring in a good breeze.
