she is simply a yes woman, who drops many a political ball, she is supposed to be able to juggle as part of the mandate of her job.

""The decision does not rest with me. It's out of my hands and the decision is final," Ambrose told reporters in St. Albert, Alta" (funny how they hide in alberta whenever they have to make controversial public addresses eh)

" "The whole point of her being health minister is to help regulate, to help with the decision-making process," said Christina Alaimo, the group's youth co-ordinator."

it would have been just as pathetic to hear ileana iglukuk say the same words had they not shuffled both of them around the cabinet to piss off a new demographic of Canadians.

I see three things.

  1. Politicians get in trouble for directly interfering in those type of decisions made according to a set of scientific guidelines which they put in place for the bureaucrats to enforce. It really isn't her decision, it's just unusual to hear them admit it. (and she has probably been delaying this behind the scenes for years, it just finally got to the point that she couldn't come up with any more excuses)
  2. As a financial decision, there is a great deal of money at stake for the pharmaceutical company that holds the patent rights on this medication, and they were probably putting pressure on the politicians to go to market. (remember they have NAFTA on their side)
  3. Some civil servant probably has a passive aggressive streak that made them want to embarrass their boss coming up to what they know is certain to be a contentious election.

well looking into MMJ isn't her job..now this decision was out of her hands...she sounds like a puppet. what does she get paid for? what does she do?

It helps to think of our government as a board of directors for the country. They don't actually run anything, they just meet once in a while to look at problems and identify solutions that the bureaucrats will work on. They are responsible for setting the overall direct the country will head, but they are not supposed to interfere in the actual running of the country.

Imagine the chaos that would happen if the politicians started interfering in CRA or military operations? What they do is tell the military "We want this end result" then the military will come back with a plan which will be approved, or not, to accomplish the identified goal.

The only real way they can influence the bureaucracy directly is through the budget process, by withholding money for things they don't want to happen, and giving money for things the professionals in the civil service may think is ridiculous.

i thought they were supposed to make laws and "rule the land".....we call on our MP's to help when we need help navigating through things we don't understand. very strange things the Government does.
