About Lights

Hey folks,

so for my grow i was thinking about getting a bunch of 90w LED UFO's to go with during vegging to go with 2 600w HPS lamps for flowering.

i was wondering if i hung the UFO's off to the side during flowering do you think that would benefit the plants at all?

Like have the 2 HPS on top and then maybe 3 or 4 of those UFOs shining to the sides of the plants.

just a thought

well i wouldnt spend too much money on them because 2 600s should be a good amount of light for them.
also cfls or tubes work fine for veg you dont need to throw alot of money for the veg room

well how many plants could 2 600s reasonably support? and i was thinking maybe the LEDs off to the side would have some beneficial effect rtowards yield/quality. No?

truthfully i wouldnt spend any money on LEDs they put out very very low lumens barley enough to be worth it like 3000 maybe and there $500 a piece... a 600 puts out like 90,000 or something

From what I understand, lumens are the visible light that humans can see but have nothing to do wit plant growth. If lumens were all that mattered how come folks jus don't go out and buy floodlights? although I'm a nooob and cud be comepletely off-base

LED's are just a bad idea; first what light spectrum do they give of, second how far away are they going to be. LED light isn't effective at far distances, you probably need to have them at lest 5 inches away from the plant to make any difference. I wouldn't put them in my flowering room either.

yeah thats true but it does have some relation humans see mostly in the yellow plants use yellow also but they much more of the spectrum than we do but flood lights put off the wrong spectrum to be usable by plants and led just put off next to nothing in both categories. Maybe one day led will be they way since there so efficient but not today. I would stick with HPS for sure or MH. But you dont have to listen to me you can try for yourself but dont say i didnt warn you

well i was just fishing around for ideas, i'm leaning more towards just messing with HPS now though and maybe florescent for vegging.

plain ignorance... LED's work and yes ufos would make awsome side lighting. I use 45's for side light. In my personal experience and testing, LED's bud production is better quality (more resin production). I used to use hps and wont go back.

LED haters here mostly have never used LED's and speak from plain ignorance. Make your own choice.

Oh yeah technically they will "work" thats if your not worried about how much your plants yields and most growers are... I mean it is kinda the whole point of growing right.

Well My yield was on par with my partners who was growing the same strain (same clones) with hps. He was using 2 1000w hps on 16 plants. I was using 90w on 4 plants. (I got clones from him) Our yield per plant was in the same ballpark. Mine took a week longer to finish, but had more crystally goodness...Better product, by his own admission.
