I am going to buy a kit and light today should I go with a 150 HPS or aSun System SunBlaze 24 Fluorescent T5 light system 2 ft. I am growing in a 4 ft high box that is 2 ft wide by 20 in deep. If heat will be a factor I will do the t5 for sure. I will buy one of the other on ebay in a bit, but will wait for some feedback

Thanks,

i will have a fan over the light and probably one other venting out, but it used to use a 1000 watt hps in a computer room, and it was like the freakin tropics in there. this is a smaller light by far, but so is the growing space :)

regardless if there are hot temps are not. air should never stay in the area. you should do air exchanges at least 3 times every minute

imma always say go HID, but if you dont have your temps in check....im guessing go with the t5s

I would go with the T5's. You'll probably get more lumens than the 150w and it'll be mucho cooler. Summer's just around the corner.

hps man. if you have a pc outtake at the top and make a plexi glass panel below the light your heat should be just fine. for the plexi, have it so there is like a one inch slit so air can come from the bottom and move to the top and out through your outake

would you happen to have any pics of this? i may have to go very stealthy and this may come in handy. Thanks!

dont have any pics man. sorry about that. i have had the system i described since my freshman year in college. it is only my beginning veg room now with a bunch of cfls, but when i had a 150hps in it it always gave me 1 pretty decent plant (mine was 1x1). best thing is to just tool around with it and modify it to your liking

with this small system try to keep it simple. fan in bottom, fan out top, barrier close to light with a slot for air to pass

i tried something similar but i have plenty of room now for my nice big box - but that may change.

i was intrigued by the plexi glass between the light and the plant - i think that is the trick my thoughts have been missing - keeps it nice and short - but still can get some lights in there!

Thanks for your answers I will probably stick with the CFL's but I had such good results with the HPS I had to stop and think about it first
Here is the box I bought, i bought it un assembled to save $50 bucks and I WOULD NOT SUGGEST IT LOL
Garden Cabinet phototron plant pot box grow light 60" - eBay (item 370009738385 end time Feb-26-08 19:17:58 PST)

I am going to probably put the 4 bulb full spectrum T5 on the tops and some flouros in the corners, but man I can get the hps 150 with a the exact same kit as the flouro kit combo on ebay for 30 bux cheaper so I had to consider it.

i am liking that box nate. 2x2x6 is more then enough space. i might even say that you might be able to get a 250hps in there if you tinker well enough. it wouldn't be easy...but i think it would be possible. again a barrier, the 2 outtakes up top, and a couple intake below and wallah 4 sq ft of scrog could give more then enough for plenty of personal with some for friends.
everyone always talks big, but you can do wonders with small if you have the concepts down. it is easy to produce with a few 600 watt hps and a 80 square foot room. much harder when space and light are limited.

any CFL, TFL or any other kind of Floresent lights is your best bet in a smaller space because they produce less heat. I have 1 42w CFL (150w ou tput) and it doesn't run nearly as hot as a 60w bulb, I can have my hand almost touching it and I can beel the heat and its warm not hot, hope this helps

technically its not my life's savings... but once I buy, my wife won't want me changing up long story, I just wanted to make the right choice the first time. I went ahead and got the 150 hps and will probably go get some CFL's from walmart or the depot for vegging and for flowering on the sides
