it is normal for a seed husk to stick on the top like that. you can VERY GENTLY try to remove it but should pop off soon. I have never seen one stuck on quite like that though - it does look like it might cause some problem.

here is one from my grow - as you can see it would be easy to pop it right off whereas yours looks really stuck on there. does it move if you gently try to lift it - can you see anything under it? be careful if you decide to start poking at it though.

if the seed is stuck on the stem - burying it with dirt will not help. But if the root is pushing the seed out, it would be reburied.

i'm not sure if the stem or the root is pushing the seed out. If it is the stem - not a big deal but if it is the root then you'll need to bury it.

I'm not a soil grower but is that just back-yard dirt in that pot?

no miracle-gro moisture control
whew! that's good news - it kind of had that back-yard dirt look to it.

can you tell if it the stem or the root sticking out?

If it is a stem - it should be anywhere from a very pale green to purplish.
If it is a root - it will be very, very white, shiny and smooth looking.

If it is root, bury it again. If it is stem, you can give it a couple of days to fall off. If it doesn't fall off in a few days, then we might have to take more drastic measures.

I am no expert though so if you hear conflicting advice - please don't assume I am correct.

To me it looks like the tap root, Take a look at that bad boy and see if its the root or the stem, if so follow all the advise already givin.

If you don't the stem will just keep stretching as the leaves look for light.
if you look closer - it looks like it might be the root pushing the seed out due to over packed dirt. popping the seed would then kill the plant.

Nah, I don't think so, by the looks of it, although blurry. One reason for planting at about 1/2 inch is so the seed, after germinating, has a chance to let the soil "pull" the seed casing off as it pushes through the dirt. If this doesn't happen, like when you plant too shallow, the casing can stick to the developing cotelydons. If you pop the casing open, there is usually a second thin membrane still holding the leaves together. Gently pull this off too and the leaves will immediately turn to the light. If you make a mistake, you break the little head off. If you do nothing, it might open it might not. A crap shoot either way, unless you are very gentle, and even use two people.

OK - my old eyes can't see that well but it sounds like you know for certain.

Had a batch that I let over develop in the paper towel not too long ago. Had 5-6 that did this because I had to plant with the roots already about 1/2 inch long. Popped 'em open and all survived.

yeah - i've popped a few off here and there - usually let them just fall off though. i just wanted to make sure that wasn't a root because i didn't want him killing his plant. just being cautious.

i dont know what to do.i guess what 2 days and if it dont fall......
Look at what the seed is attached to and describe it:
1) what color is it?
2) is it straight or squiggly looking?
3) does it look more like a root or more like a stem?

then you'll know what to do...
if stem - pop it off per ccodiane's instructions
if root - bury it

but whatever you do - try not to handle it too much and be gentle.
