I had a really light case of root rot. my roots started to stink and turn a redish brown color. It was more like a stain, it wasn't thick and slimy like some of the horror stories I hear online. The temperature in my grow room got really hot! and I'm pretty sure that's what caused the root rot. I'm new to hydro so I'm still learning.

Here's a pic of what to look for... this is just a random pic i found on the net

also, a tell tale sign of root rot is when your plant looks thirsty, that slime dont kill your roots, it competes with roots for water, thus smothering root systems, first things first, need to control water temps, guess what? water of 72-75F means no hydro for you, you might want to toss an a/c in your room or get a chiller, once you sort out temps, add some hygrozyme and watch that nasty shit get dissolved. changing water daily for a week helps expedite the recovery, since in hydro you dont want want the nasty slime that falls off roots into the water to get recirculated back, hygrozyme is an enzyme that targets bad bacteria and pathogeons and any and all dead root matter, when using the stuff your water gets even worse looking, this is good cus the hzyme is working, disolving pathogens and any roots that are infected, with a fresh res daily in 5-7 days new explosive roots appear. i got root rot 2 times in the last 8 months and hzyme bailed me out, people will say that it dont work bcus it gets even slimier at first, best get your temps straightend out and use it as protective maintanence

well the max temp in the room is usually 82 degrees but it's usually around 78. just checked my temps and the water is around 75.3-4. i have hygrozyme already cause i thought i had rot before so i'll keep that in mind. i guess to make sure during the day for a while it says right i could put ice in em? anyone done that? just till saturday when i can get a water chiller. thanks for the tips!

i don't know, haterhurter.........u might not want to go adding shit to your rez quite so quickly. imo, your temps are well within the range for your roots to thrive and grow. my temps are waaaaaaaaaaaay higher than yours, and the only time i've noticed any type of root damage was when i overdosed my girls with molasses and didn't use hygrozyme which i normally use 95% of the time.

also, imo, the pic that omkara upped doesn't show the slimy gel that most often is associated with root rot. my roots will turn the color of the roots in the pic if i add something like bud blood or even using floranova grow/flower nutes. i agree with morrisgrennberg, if your plants are still looking good, then you probably don't have root rot. and i now use hygrozyme all of the time and not just as a preventative measure. it's expensive but it gives me peace of mind!

i haven't yet, since i did the 8 step recuperation i haven't added any hygrozyme or sm-90. i did put a little hydrogen peroxide in it, around 2 teaspoons in a 6 gallon rez.

I swear by Hygrozyme. It's amazing stuff. My roots are nice and white and healthy. It really works. It's a little pricey but worth every penny. I'm currently growing in an Aerogarden Pro 100 and had some problems with slime in the reservoir. I read a lot of great things about Hygrozyme and tried it. I can't recommend it highly enough.
