Adding a 5000K, 300Watt LED to flowering.

Hey guys, first post,

I have 2 plants going at the moment. Each plant has 8 x 23 Watt cfl's directly on top. ~184 Watt per plant

I went in to buy two 40 watt actual, 2700K cfls to put right in between the two plants but they were sold out.
So being that this is in a shiny box, half the draw, 40$, and fits my fixture I bought it.

So my question is would this be a good supplement for the side light as it is not considered a "grow" light?

ps. haven't opened it or anything yet so I can return it if its useless.

I'm not familiar with Feit. But, it sounds good (38 watts for 4000 lumens, that's over 100 L/w). I use Cree, GE Bright Sticks and Phillips A19 bulbs. The GE and Phillips are over 100 L/w. I'm growing with them right now.

I would recommend the GE or Phillips instead of the Feit because they are directional by design. You don't have to mount them in reflectors to get the most bang for the buck (but reflectors do add some efficiency).

What I don't like about the Feits is that they are omnidirectional. If you were going to drop them down into the center of 4 plants, that would be good. But, for side-lighting around the periphery (or top-lighting) I would use the Phillips. Pop the diffusion dome off. Mount them in clamp-on reflectors (or just the flexible gooseneck extenders (but, reflectors will help).

If you're just going to do what many CFL users do (hang it in mid-air, radiating everywhere it's not needed, or in a turkey-baster reflector) it should be better than CFL (which is about 65 L/w). But, if you use more/smaller lights in proper reflectors, you'll do *much* better. Even putting a CFL in a proper reflector is like adding 3-4 more lights (without the heat and electric cost).

For sidelighting, I would use the Phillips A19 (14w cool or 14.5w warm).
