Adding comfrey to SIP

curious if I can add dried whole comfrey leaves as a top mulch layer in my sub irrigated planters. Can’t think of why not but curious what others think. I have tons of dried leaves I want to put to work.

Sure you can, comfrey is one of nature's best all in one fertilizers. You'll definitely notice its effects. I feed my comfrey run off nutrient solution from indoors, then fertilize all my outdoor plants with the comfrey. You can make a tea from the dried leaves or just mix in either dried or chopped wet comfrey.

I'm excited to finally cut some comfrey plants down this week and put all that green to use as well.

I plan to replace all my straw mulch with the chopped leaves so I would like to think your idea in a sip box would work fine as well. Seems like it would provide nutrients along with other benefits as well. Maybe just start with a thin layer on top of some compost and make sure things go well.

Good luck though and hope it gives those sips just that little extra kick.

How'd it work out? I just defoliated a plant and dropped all of the leaves I removed down into the bed. Was wondering if it was too much but I figure the worms and bugs will take care of it, right?

If you're using it to feed the soil, chopping it up would help it break down faster. It doesn't look like too much, but I wouldn't add any more for a lil bit.
Add some bokashi if you haven't already.

Thanks for the reply. I did actually chop it up after I took the pic and it's been doused with a little FFJ which was made with lacto, figured it would help the process. The bed itself has also been fed liberally with said FFJ.

mix the leaves with some apple cider vinegar and blend it up and see strain it water it in, get those polyphenols
