Adding Pro-Grow 5-3-4 to outdoors

my holes are 1.5 ft by 3 ft deep and i was wondering how much i should add. The bag is really old and i cant read much else on it http://www.biconet.com/soil/progrow.html my other question is that i have a huge lawn and i started putting all the clippings in one spot now its about 3 feet high all compacted i was wondering if i should take the middle of the pile which is dark green or the top where its more yellowish? + rep for all help:hump:

I'm not 100% but it looks like ProGrow could be used as a top dressing. Id def look into that more, because I'd hate to be the reason you killed your crop.

but if so, I would scratch 1/2 cup worth into the top 1" of soil (if planted in the ground) and water thoroughly. Maybe do this once every month or less.

as for compost, just grass alone isn't going to do much for your pile. alternate between greens and browns like dry leaves, etc. you want these layered to help oxygen reach the center of your pile. Also, keep it moist but not wet and be sure to flip it once in awhile to help it break down more evenly. if it's still green, yellow, whatever it's not ready. Compost will turn into a dark rich dirt like mixture, which takes time. I cheap barrel with some aeration makes a perfect composter to speed things up.
