Noob question...

my first grow, its about 2 ft tall and the soil is sort of low in the bucket. is it okay to just add more soil on top of the old?

Yeah of course it is and recommended imo. Just make sure the dirt doesn't cover up any plant matter and you should be good, wanna avoid any leaves touching the dirt.

Not a good practice as the stock gets air for the roots at the soil line so you might suffocate her. As well as the soil is for the roots not to fill the bucket---the roots wont grow up that is a choice for T-planting/

I guess, but the plant doesn't even use the top few inches of soil so all that would happen is the plant would just grow more roots which I can't see being a bad thing. Can't forget that it also gets air from the bottom of the pots as well. But if your really scared about suffocating them you could just poke some holes in the dirt after you put some fresh soil on there.

It is a common practice with tomatoes to transplant and leave a few sets of leaves underground, it promotes root development and in turn stem quality.

I did exactly this when I transplanted my clones to larger containers, I personally believe it's a beneficial practice and it worked out well, however keep in mind that you do risk stressing or damaging the plant.

This is also a method for keeping plants as small as possible for PC grows ;)

Myself i'd try to pull the plant out of the pot and put the dirt at the bottom...plant can use it quicker.....instead of having to grow roots to fill the dirt.........

If you transplant it into a bigger pot you can then add soil and new roots will grow from the covered stem, should only be done in veg though

I say transplant because there is a way to do so without adding stress and actually makes the plant flourish and that is to soak your current pot in a bucket/tub of water let it run off then move it to the new pot add soil and rewater it
