Im currently trying to flower two Jack Herer autos from Cropking seeds. These plants are actually really interesting because I didn't start them I adopted them roughly 3 weeks ago when the original grower realized they were not in the best environment and if he wanted anything out of them he would need to commit more than he was willing.
The plants were in a very dry environment under very low powered lights so they grew very tall and leggy but they grew extremely slowly as well. I had plants 2 weeks old that were growing much faster and bigger than the 7-8 week old plants that I adopted.
After moving the plants they pretty much died. I believe because the original grower was feeding them nutrients in the dry environment the plant was not able to uptake the nutrients fast enough before they dried up in the soil and after moving them into an environmentally controlled grow tent with decent lights they tried to uptake too much nutrients and both of them showed different signs of nutrient burn. Both of these plants were showing completely different phenotypes at the time with one showing very Sativa Dominant leaf shape and plant structure and the other showing very Indica dominant leaf shape and plant structure.
The Indica dominant Jack looked like it was never going to make it all of its leaves were burnt and the outsides were yellow and crispy. There were almost no green leaves and it looked dead standing.
The Sativa dominant Jack looked like it was suffering from serious nitrogen toxicity the leaves were verry dark green and the tips were curled up and crispy only a few of the leaves had yellow around the edges but the insides were still a dark green. I had better hopes for this one but it was the older of the two plants and was severely under developed for the age.
This all happened during the same night that I moved the plants. Within probably 6-8 hours the plants were almost dead.
I checked the plant after being in the tent for roughly 4 hours and immediately took them both out and flushed them with filtered water until it was almost clear coming out the bottom. I was running a 24 hour light cycle in the tent at the time so I checked them again in the morning and they looked severely over watered but still looked alive so I just decided to leave them alone. I didnt trim or cut anything off of the plant at this point and just left it alone for a while to see if they were alive or not.
Surprisingly enough they started to come back alive after a few days and after a week I decided to do a heavy defoliation of all of the burned leaves and tips.
This helped tremendously and I think the experienced messed up the Autoflower growth timeline because the plants are roughly 4 months old and have just started showing pistils.
The Indica dominant strain came back very strong and grew in size and stature very quickly to become one of the biggest plants in the tent but the sativa jack kinda looks wimpy but has a good amount of tops.
I just recently switched them to flower nutrients but Ive kept them in the grow tent with the others currently at 18-6 because I want to see if they will retain their autoflower trait to disregard lighting schedules and trigger on the nutrient change alone.
After about a week it looks like it may be successful with both plants showing some stretch and sexing throughout the nodes.
The other plants in the tent are a variety as well but they are all collectively old enough to be going into full flower mode and 12-12 scheduling so it will be interesting to see how the compare to the other girls with a 2 week nutrient head start and an extra 2 and a half months of growth haha!
