Advanced nutrients Over drive cheaper alternative?

I’m on my first grow and I’m looking to find a cheaper alternative to advanced nutrients overdrive, I’ve hear that advanced nutrients products a much more expensive than others on the market. Any good recommendations (I’m going to be mixing it with big bud on the last few weeks of flower)

I use General Hydroponics Flora three-part nutrients. That's it, other than a bottle of calmag.

Besides that "Overdrive" stuff, what other nutrients are you using, or is that it?
The exact same as you, I just have big bud in with mine as well

If that's the case, you don't need the extra stuff. Just the base nutrients is all a plant requires. Almost all of the "Overdrive" or "Super Frosty Huge Bud" additions provide no benefit beyond what base nutrients are already providing.
Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it :)

Overdrive is 1-5-4
Base should be 5-4-8
What it does is add P&K for the last few weeks. I use Humboldt Sonic bloom 0-51-34 last three (half strength, full, full) it’s granular and 30 bucks will last 15 runs I imagine.

Sonic Bloom is just monopotassium phosphate with some B vitamins. Sold for $45 a pound. Way to expensive. You can buy 20 pounds of 0-52-34 MKP for under $40 and have the same thing.

Hi, I use pk1314 and overdrive in flower. Would be great to replace the expensive overdrive with MKP! How much do you add per gallon mate? I use Dutch hydro A&B base nutrients 5-2-6 base in flower and I’m using a 75ltr res Wilma/origin system. just ordered cal mag in powder form to try out aswel. Cheers -NugZ

Overdrive and MKP are two totally different things so one can't replace the other. I've used 2 bottles of OD and tried side-by-side growing with it and saw no difference. After mid-flower some K, Mg and S are what finishes them off best for me. Epsom Salts takes care of the Mg and S and I have potassium chloride, 0-0-62, for a bit of that.

Too much P is what causes most of the 'chem' taste in overfed plants and very little should be used after the stretch period when the plants feed at their highest levels so don't wait until week 3 of flower to add boosters. Start those a week before the flip and back off after mid-flower to pre-flower levels of feeding. The only growth is the buds and they don't demand high ppms to fatten up.

Just stop using overdrive and see if you can tell the difference before adding anything else.

Dutch pro on it's in is all I use.

So the soy sauce joke got me thinking - would the Braggs liquid amino product sold in the grocery store provide any useful amino acids for plants, or is my sleepy brain not functionally high enough yet ?

I wouldn't, too much sodium. Less than soy sauce, but there are much better amino acid products out there for plants. Powdered form is the most economical-check out Down to Earth Agmino, or, Corn Steep Liquor. 100% of the N in CSL is from amino acids and it's very nearly a complete fertilizer on it's own. It really shines in as a supplement to mineral salt fertilizers in flower-nothing feeds soil organisms like CSL.

Ok thanks for the advice. Yeah I was using the pk13/14 at 0.33 per ltr from week 3 flower up to 1.5 week 5 then back down. Will try without overdrive this run then. Cheers -NugZ

AN is one of the most overpriced diluted asinine nute lines out there. better options: GH 3 part, jacks 321, maxibloom - choose one and add nothing else aside from silica. bud hardeners and bloom boosters are just going to mess you up because you're new and because they are totally unnecessary.

Ok thanks Corey, will do that that next run using only base nutes. I think the grow shops saw me coming years ago lol I used to buy the whole advanced nutrients hobbiest grow bundles That shit gets expensive. The placebos are strong in the grow shops especially on bud hardeners. -NugZ

Interesting, thanks for the info. This is the 2nd time I’ve seen a reference to CSL on here now. Time for some googling ! I’d read about using dried corn for enzymes (like sprouted tea). Would CSL provide those as well?

Edit : a link to read some stuff about CSL for anyone else interested. https://www.growerssecret.com/corn-steep-liquor-and-powder-fertilizers
That's a great question, I might ask a guy at Impello that I stayed in touch with-about the enzymes. CSL is loaded with lactic acid and a ton of secondary metabolites from the fermentation process, but I'm not certain if enzymes would survive the drying process, I'll look into the procedure they use.

From reading some of the other organic threads, it was suggested to use using commercially available malted barley instead of making sprouted teas. Malted barley is already sprouted and then dried - sold for making beer. Advertisers claim it to be particularly high in enzymes, essential to the fermentation/brewing process. 2 row and 6 row malted barley specifically were mentioned for using as a top dressing (higher in enzymes?) every 2 weeks.

Malted barley is great! I have a fat bag of 6 row barley I keep around for this purpose-don't buy it pre-ground, get it whole and use a coffee grinder for just the amount you are going to use right away. Just don't overdo it, you can overnute a plant fairly easily with it. Also, if you top-dress with it, it can sort of plaster the surface of your media so that water has a hard time penetrating, so I just add it to my nutrient solution. Once every 2 weeks is enough, I use 2 tablespoons per 3 gallons of nutrient solution.
