Advanced nutrients vs fox farm and the rest

Just harvested using a combo of AN and FF.

AN 2part sensi
FF open sesame, beastie, cha-ching.
AN sweet leaf
Cal-mag

Got a lot of fat colas from this round. 9 plants in a 4x4 with a 1000w, hydroton 10" pots with drip.

in my first grow i used peaters
15-30-15

now when i grow i have been using general hydroponics frlora series i ahve already seen a big differance in production and in sweet smell. i dont know how to explain it but i can just tell its better

I can tell you why. Plants need 17 elements to grow. Peter's doesn't have near all the nutes that a plant needs. But now you are using a hydro nute with closer to all 17 elements. Hydro nutes have more micro nutes in them because there are no nutes in plain water.

Anyone try the Advanced Nutes time released on an outdoor gorilla grow ?

I'll only be able to water/feed every 2 weeks, so I was thinking of getting the whole kit, spring/summer/fall only 3 feeds they say.

Advanced nutrients is all hype and marketing.

is there anyone that can simplify the AN ... i am scared to use it because there are soooo many different cchems ... what is the best and easiest regiment when using AN? also i heard you have use half of what the directiobns say is that true?

All hype, not quite, it is an excellent performing nutrient regiment... But it is costly for the little difference in THC% and small yield differences...

You don't have to use all of the different beneficials, and there are many different regiments you can follow.

Fox Farm is much simpliar, and does get decent results by comparison. But resin production is ridiculous with AN.

i just went to the local hydro shop the other day..they had three tomato plants growing side by side..no advanced nutes..but they had GH..bada..and some other nute ...the GH was the largest plant..followed by hollands secret bada series..and i dont remember what the last one was..the reason i use alot of AN products..is im not a grower..i do not have a green thumb at all..none what so ever..and yea..i can kill even a weed..a seed..anything..i am however a excellent reader....and a excellent engineer...if you do what AN says...they have it made it fool proof for even a non green thumb person like me to grow good weed..because of science...4 liter bottles of part A and B of their two part program is only 60 dollars...or 7 dollars and 50 cents a liter ..who sells a simular quality products for 7 dollars 50 cent a liter?..the additives are somewhat expensive ..but mostly they go a very long way..if you try it you will acualy see the AN is pretty cheap..and you couldnt ask for b etter results...

Totally understandable, I did the same thing. I just got tired of the inconsistent results and ended up using Advanced Nutrients.

Advanced Nutrients is only as complicated as you need it to be. Do the Sensi 2-part, Big Bud, Voodoo Juice, B-52 and Overdrive. Those are pretty simple really. If you want to add more stuff later as you get more experienced go for it, but those five are a good start.

All chemical nutrients are the same except for the ratio and amount of the differnent macro/micronutrients. Ions are Ions, so regardless of which product you use you end up with the same thing..nitrogen in the from of nitrate, ammonia, or urea...phosphorus in the form of phosphate ions, and potassium in potassium ions...its the levels and ratios of these that make chemical nutes different. I have used sensi 2 part, and I have found that there phosphorus and magnesium ratios are a little low...now I prefer using the lucas formula which is just the GH bloom and micro. As for AN other products, they all serve purposes, but they are also overpriced and not really necessary. Bud blood, big bud, and overdrive, are just PK boosters whcih you dont even need with the lucas formula. Fulvic acid is helpful, but I wouldnt pay 30 bucks for theirs. Hygrozyme works better than sensizym(and less expensive), and carboload you can just replace with molasses. Vodoo juice works good I hear, but at 100 bucks a bottle I doubt is worth the extra boost in root mass it gives you. Pirahna and tarantula are good products, but agian, arent necessary. Barricade is just extra silica, which you could buy for cheaper from pretty much any other brand, and I havent really had any experience with b52. I think that pretty much covers it all right.

Yes, ions are ions, but as we all know there's more to hydroponic nutrients than just the ions. Even more importantly is how you get those ions into solution. Not every potential fertilizer salt dissolves well in water, and not surprisingly the ones that dissolve the best are typically the ones that cost the most.

And of course the other stuff that's in them is the buffers and chelates. Chelates in particular cost a pretty penny. If my memory of Dr. Howard Resh's "Hydroponic Food Production" is accurate the chelates often cost more than all the nutritional components combined. I don't have to tell you how effective a fully-chelated nutrient solution can be.


Better ingredients means better solubility which means higher concentrations in the bottle and proper chelation means the nutrient uptake is much, much better. And of course good buffering is important because the less your pH fluctuates the better your plants will do.

Speaking of which, Fox Farm has a quite erradic pH fluctuation by itself...


I've been growing this cycle with a mix between AN and FF, and some others...

Basically, I cut out the Dr Hornby products and substituted the Fox Farm soluables, and Gravity...


Gravity has some potential of staying in the garden, it has some substantial impact...


But, the Fox Farm soluables aren't barely competition with Hornby's products...


As hooked said, results are inconsistant.



I'll end up with a great harvest, mind you, but not as good as it would've been, I've had a bit of trouble this grow, nothing serious, just irregular drinking... Watering between 3-5 days... but with AN everything is smooth and without a hitch.

I'm really glad you've done this because it's something I'm really curious about myself, but I just don't have the time or the drive to do it myself.

I had some pretty bad experiences with FF previously so I just won't touch the stuff anymore. I know some people do okay with it, but it seems that it just doesn't mix well with my style or something. I can't grow algae with the stuff.

I don't see a huge difference in this grow from my others, I may have burnt a few plants slightly because I also supplemented Gravity... But all in all it's a successful grow, only a few weeks til harvest.

I'll stay tuned but that's a massive thread there... couple billion pages. Kind of feel lost in that sea of voices.

The pH issues you've had are a pretty strong argument for me. I'm going to stick with the tried and true.

I must say, I do have substancial resin production from using the FF soluable vs the Hornby line, but I'm not sure about the flavor yet... Not ready.

The FF solubles will ruin the flavor of your buds. I had been using them for about 1 1/2 yrs, and these last 2 grows have switched to Hydroplex from Botanicare and the taste and stone is much better.

I use pure blend pro, sweet, liquid karma, cal mag plus, and Hydroplex from botanicare with great results. I was "happy" with my FF buds until I tried something different. I know a lot of people switching from the FF solubles because of the taste issues and all the heavy metals in them.

this is going ot be my first organic grow and soil grow and my 2nd al around.

I just bought the bio bizz grow and bloom. I went with it because it is omri and ek(?) certified in the us and uk as organic. I hope it works well. I also have pure blend pro on hand, however, I just heard it is only organic based.

This is medical and my liver is gone. So omri organic looks the best so far.

I have -bio bizz
-super plant tonic
-hydroguard
-ocean forest
-light warrior
-perlite
-dolomite lime
-going also for worm casting teas and bat guano teas for flower and veg. I also have dyna grow and liquid karma on hand just not sure if I should use that with the super plant tonic or if it organic, but I doubt it. I got some houseplants that get all the mj stuff I dont use

The pure blend pro soil formula for bloom is organic, not just organic based. The grow formula says that its "natural and organic".
