So last night I claimed in a post that our veg cycle was insane and that it set up my first couple weeks of flowering andthus improved my overall yields. Well a member asked me what I do that's so insanely different and I responded but I figured I would share it again in it's own post.
My veg cycle gets broken down into two phases; a pre veg which takes place in keg cups or 4" pots under T5's and lasts two weeks from the time they leave the cloner. I feed at 1/4 strength the first week, 1/2 strength the 2nd week, and ramp up from there to full strength. The second phase of our veg cycle starts at day 15 when we transplant directly into their final container (the one I will harvest them in) usually 5-7 gallons and root friendly (rootmaker, Smartpot, etc) and under full light (usually 6-10k) for an additional 3 weeks. So our total veg cycle time is 5 weeks counting the pre veg, and maybe another 5-7 days of time spent in our cloners beforehand. I used to transplant into 3 gallon containers from the cups and then again into 5-7 gallon containers a week or so before flipping the lights, but a number of grows ago I ran out of 3 gal containers and was forced to put them directly into their final pots from cups. The results blew me away. The growth, yield, and speed were all increased by 20% or so. No shit, just by skipping the 3 gal stage.
Every single time I transplant I treat the root wads as if they are my most prized possesion. Every single time, every single plant. I don't disturb the roots what so ever. I always add bennies to the containers when I transplant which used to be great white but now is Oregonism XL. I feed with B1, Buddha Grow, Buddha Bloom (yes bloom), Amino Aide, Trinity, Extreme Serene, Ancient Amber, Hygrozyme, Uprising Grow, Big Worm, Uprising Foundation, Elemental, and gmas mollases. I water everyother day, but make sure I spend a couple of hours a day in my veg room making sure that everything is taking up water around the same pace and that any sign of rest or slowing gets dealt with immediatly. I don't care what I have going on the next day, it gets dealt with by me or a friend. I don't skip a day or get lazy, I am right there at all times.
I top everything at 18-20" when my cages go up. I prune two more times in veg and make sure that all of my plants get pruned at the same time (I spread it over two days for my larger grows). Everything shocks at the same time and recovers the same time, that way everything remains uniform and the nutrient uptake stays equal. I lollipop everything in my final prune for better airflow and to concentrate all of the plants energy into it's main shoots. I prune and train for as many bud sites as possible, which plays a huge role in my yields come flowering time. Like I said above my veg cycle set up my flowering cycle, and greatly increases my yield. I do in three weeks what most people can't do in six. I find each strains sweet spots and just pour on the love and things seem to work out.
