this thread is a little hostile. haha we all fight the same fight. if you can produce with cfls or HID thats great they both have their pros and cons

I find the biggest advantages being that the lights can be put where they are needed, close to the plant. The bigger CFL's run abot 6500 lumens per bulb, and the cost of running them is CHEAP!! At 12.7 cents per electrical unilt, I'd be growing to pay for it. With the CFL's my bill went up only about 15-20$ a month, but yeah buying them initially was a bitch, but I figure that they paid for themselvrs in the first 8 months..and no usage spike for LEO.

I would love to see your setup oldphart. just remember at less than an inch away the 125 watt cfl is just as bright as a 15 watt cfl. I cringe when i see pics of envirolights more than 6 inches away from the plant. Garden Knowms thread on cfl proximity to foilage says everything. the problem with env lights is that even if the bulb is TOUCHING the plant there are some tubes of the bulb that are quite a distance away whereas as small cfl can get the whole bulb within a few inches from the leaves.

Sounds like your system works tho, if it ain't broke...
The lights are about 2-3 in from the plants and the hoods reflect the rest back down

dont forget oldfart that lower wattage allows you to get closer to the plante there is less btu out put also the 42 watt self ballest bulbs made by GE give the most lumens per watt..

i have a lowe speed fan oscilating and a bunch of 3/8 in holes in the top and sides.. The don't get that hot...usually.

Yeah, but the point is that you can get the same light output from less total watts of HID. CFLs produce just as much heat.
I'm running almost 3K CFL and don't need AC or hood fans and to give full coverage I'd need at least 3 complete lights plus AC and hood vents. Not to mention around here we pay more for electric than any where else except Hawaii, our bill runs around 300 to 350 month. When I started the CFL's, all of them, added $15 to our bill.

wow yancey so hostile call it what you want i have sold 460 light systems this year all with an unconditional money back 5 year warranty which i pay shipping for and yet for a guy full of s**t not one person has called for a warranty i make HID, LED, and CFL's so i have to disagree with you besides there is no reason for insults. also i must say that i have been well informed by this site i have also been wrong in my life and quickly corrected but my lighting systems are flawless that is why i have such a great warranty

sorry but there are many light systems as the above message says LED, HID, and CFL so you need to be very specific i have teamed up with red-shield trading CO. at [email protected] after purchasing several of his systems i thought it was something to invest in i have seen several systems he has set up for people not just lighting but now he is doing whole rooms and houses fans lights timers water systems all computer controlled there has been much controversy over the subject of lighting in this specific field but i personaly like what the guy is producing we do appolige but the only way to contact him is through his e-mail addy serious enquires ONLY please our schedule is full as it is the warrenty goes through his company i have nothing to do with that part there are few pictures and records kept we try to respect the privacy of others and for auditting purposes that way no matter what happens our customers remain private we and them like it that way hope i have answered your question.

Yes! cfl can and do out preform hps's! I have done it for the past four years. check out any on the pic.'s all of my plants are grown ONLY under cfl's. Now the problem with the TYPE of cfl's that most are using. Thery are shit!! Try looking up on the internet this type of cfl's they are called ho-t-5 lights they come in two ft, and four ft, models. The come in two ft. two bulb model two two ft, eight bulb model. On the two ft. blbs are 3,000lumens each, and come in 6500k ,and 300k(flowering) bulbs. The four ft. models come in two bulb all the way up to eight bulb unit. This with the proper mix of bulbs will flower out six plants. Cfl are better than h.p.s.'s but not thoses little 23 watts lights are for reading only!! Try these new flyros you will be happy, and ove the return, ie; MASS BUDS!!!The two ft.x four ft. eight bulb unit puts out 40,000 lumens and if ya have six of theses you can too! do 24 plants at one time no heat, no extra blowersmaking nosie, and using more power than needed, get the point? no extrea b.s. just to run lights?? Oh! there a better light thanall theses called P.S.L. lighting but cost a shit load of bucks!! like 1800 per light last 1,000,000.00 hours and 700 wattt models = 10, TEN! 600 watt h.p.s. in lumens and in the light range that the plant uses, not like half the light from any h.p.s. is NOT!! USED!! the plant turn it into heat and trys to get rid of it threw its leafs and roots, brighter doses NOT!! mean better, just bigger electric bills that all peace and pot, sees.

just remember people that the higher you go in watts when buyin a single CFL bulb the lower you go in lumens per watt stay at 26-55 watts and that is the best spot to stay...................... here are the periods that belong up there disperse them as you please

this is an interesting piece of information right there....and something i noticed when doing the math on bigger bulbes.

i love the comment above about the t-5 setups because t-5 if you get the right set up can produce great results they are great at providing a blanket of light i find the comment to be right on!!
except for the comment about the lower wattage bulbs they have there place the t-5 setup also has its place i have used both low wattage bulbs and high wattage bulbs i personally like the lower wattage bulbs but that is just personal preference and nothing more i do encourage people to try the t-5's
