Advice needed for new sativa grow by newbie

Hey Folks,

I've already asked a few questions and had them answered here, thanks for that. I do have another question -- what can I expect in the first 4 weeks after germination from my Jillybean (sativa dom) that is different from the mostly indica grows I'm seeing pix of here?

I ask because my seedling seems to be doing fine at 7 days from sprouting -- she's about 3.5 inches tall with the little round original leaves and two nice serrated leaves on top. I can see the space between the original leaves and the two on top is slowly increasing. But compared to other posters, she seems to be "behind." I just read someone else's thread, and at day 5 he had a bunch of leaves AND the root poking through the bottom of his rockwool cube. After just 5 days!

I'm not surprised the indicas are shorter and stubbier, but my girl seems way behind in leaf production and root growth. I've kept it simple with phd water, a dome and a cfl.

So is it something I'm doing, or is she just taking longer because she's sativa dom? And what can I expect to be different in these first 4 weeks? Once her root pokes through and she seems a little sturdier, she's going in a bubble bucket.

Thanks!

The tendency of sativa dominant plants is that in comparison to the indica dominant plants they grow slower at the beginning.

They grow slower, sparser in leaves and usually leggy. They take much longer, in general, to do everything. Especially budding and maturing. Usually worth the wait.

Thanks! I'm just trying to figure out if I'm having problems that I need to address or if I'm just experiencing the nature of this strain. My feeling is if there's growth and the leaves look healthy, then everything's the way it should be. But then again I wonder if I'm missing something, and a more experienced grower would later say "Oh my God, you saw that happening and you didn't do this, that and the other thing??? No wonder they died!" LOL

So I'm just checking. I'm taking weekly pix. As this grows out, I'll post a "sativa comparison" for folks like me who are always seeing pix of indicas.

It's more than likely the cfl. Not a whole lot of amazing results should be expected when using a single (low wattage I'm assuming) bulb.

ye lose the dome at kepe them at 50 to 60 percent rh and lightly mist or the first few days to help with the big drop in rh. basically a breaking in peroid. i lose my dome as soon as the break ground and r starting to straighten up and showing the first leafs.. cotyledons.also seedling are concentrating on root development so it can transpire and grow and may just start slow
also the dome will slow root development down once its not needed. as the high rh is helping the plant transpire while it has no or very few roots or just its tap root. removing it will make her grow new roots to be able to transpire with out the high rh

Thanks all! I did remove the dome and set up a fan at enough of a distance to gently waft the seedlings. The cfl I was using just for the first two weeks because I had heard that low levels of light are better for the first two. I have a full 400 watt MH/HPS set up ready to go, with bubble buckets. Just waiting for the root to pop through the bottom of the rockwool mini cube before putting them in the tent.

However, if y'all think I should put them in the tent right away with the MH, then I'll move right along! I just didn't want to stress the girls too much. But if I'm being too conservative, that would be good to know.
