Advise for Keeping apartment grow room cool.

Ok first I grow in an apartment.

Yes I know most people would advise against this, and some would call it down right stupid, but this is what I have to work with. So that aside let me tell you my setup.

I have a 400w mh/hps
4" inline fan 170cfm w/4" carbon filter.
a secret jarden dr150 Grow tent (5Wx5Lx7H)

While that may not seem like much to work with, that light puts out enough heat to raise the temp in that little room to almost 95 degrees.

As a result I have to run my central air just to keep the room under 80 with the door closed. With out the door closed, it can heat my apartment up decently.

The big issue is in the summer time when it is already 95 - 100 degrees outside.

currently I vent into the same room I pull the air from (doesn't work all that great as I am sure your all telling your selves right now).

So the question is what can I do to vent the hot air with out being obvious to the outside world.

I think my problem will become more clear when you see this ms paint mockup of my current digs.

This is a 2 story 4 complex apartment.

I live in the bottom.

Hmmm does your apartment have a washer/dryer?? If not, are you having your veg/flower chamber side by side?? Because, if that would be the case (and you can only use the one side...hypothetically speaking) you could veg/flower on the one side and exaust it to the other side...thus creating a humidor-effect.

Is that what sort of thing you would use??

You'll get it man, no worries,

Peace, love, rock'n'roll,

Buddy

Ok, so I smoked a few, got into my focus mode, and redid that drawing so that it represents my place a little better.

Now the dryer vent exhaust is down the hall from my grow room, and vents to the north side of the building which has nothing but grass, fences, and trees. Then like 800ft from there is the back alley of a mini mall.

The east side of the apartment is covered by a little side street which connects to the mini mall and the main street to the south of that.

On my south I have more apartments, and a parking lot.
On the west I have more parking lot and no apartments

All apartments face ether east or west with windows on ether side.
No apartments have windows on the north or south.

I think that should be enough information. I wasn't high enough on the first post to get the details out haha.

I've considered this problem myself. Your best options are A)Install a window A/C unit in the grow room that can keep that room closed and cool on it's own, maybe 10k btu or so? Or B)Run your central air and leave the grow room door open and work on circulating air in the whole apt. I had to do B but ended up raping my bill, so I would advice window unit if at all possible. Venting outside is DANGEROUS. Easy to see vent tubes, fans, or hear the noise. Also FLIR, more low key to vent indoors and cool.

Ok, yeah I agree with you on keeping it indoors being the better option.

Thankfully we are heading fast into the winter months, and temps outside will be closer to 20 - 30 for the next 6 months.

So what about this idea.
Say I go snag one of those portable swamp coolers from home depot. You know the ones on the stand that you fill up with water every so often.
Then I just keep that in the grow room?

Or do you think that would cause the humidity to sky rocket?

Sorry, I am trying to think of ways to avoid running any sort of tubing out of my room. I am probably over thinking this, because I just thought of something I would have thought of sober.

Just put a fan in the room to blow the air out of the room into the rest of the apartment.
I have smell taken care of so it would just be moving warm air.
Might save my ass on the gas bill from running the furnace.

Do you run air cooled hood ???

I vent my air cooled hood inside and outside. The ducting is separate from my carbon filter ducting so there is no smell as the air for the hood never comes in contact with the growing environment. Would require another fan and more ducting but cheap than paying for A/C all summer. If you already have a air cooled hood your gonna have to get a small a/c unit most likely

Ever used a 4.5" hole saw? YOU WILL REQUIRE DUCTING. THERE ARE NO WAYS AROUND THIS.

Pull air from the bedroom to the gwor room, remove the carbon filter -not needed and vent to the bathroom. Odor will go up the chimney vent in the bathroom to outside. That's what I do in my apt.

Hmm, I am sure the neighbors would know something was up if I started using power tools haha. Oh well, I found a better solution. My folks are letting me use the barn they have out back. Big son of a bitch too. We are converting the upstairs into a full on grow room. Only doing MAX of 3 plants.

Thanks for the info guys.
