Aeration in Nutrient Reservoir Flood and Drain

I've been operating a 3'x4' flood and drain with a 50 gal reservoir that I have been aerating 24/7 since inception. I've never liked the sound of the air pump and it drives me into madness as it is the only sound that bothers me. Reading through Al B Functs harvest every two weeks I was reading that he never even used an aerator in his reservoir. Now I'm thinking I really like the way it sounds. I use H202 in my reservoir ever 3-4 days so I should be okay. I just really want to unplug the tetra pump for good. Any comments from anyone that feels one way or another.

I've been using flood/drain for a couple years and don't find it necessary. The process of flooding the table should aerate the nutrient more than enough if your flooding at least a few times a day. I've tried aerating my res for shits and giggles and didn't notice a difference. Running an air pump could actually be harmful if its heating the res up past acceptable temps (68-70F).

I guess it depends on how often your flooding, although if your not getting enough aeration from flooding I think it would be more beneficial to run a submersible in the res to recirculate nutrient than to blow bubbles.

its not realy needed but you could put it on a 24HR 15min timer and just have it come on during flood times what I do

I use em in all 4 of my rezzys....i do so for some aeration, but more so cause it keeps my nutes from settling on the bottom...either way...if its fine without, then eliminate it..every cent counts(well for me anyway)and one less thing to break down. Just my 2cents..ganja

I flood twice a day for 15 mins, about to be three times a day. Appreciate the responses, I have plenty of spare timers so I'm just going to have it run before the pump kicks on so it can mix up the reservoir. The next flood tables I won't be buying an air pump. It just seemed like everything I read or heard said have an airpump, so now I have one, and its like well maybe that wasn't necessary. Story of my grow.
