I noticed from the photos some of you guys have posted that the seeds seem to be in the little herb seed containers that come with the AG. This may sound like a dumb dumb question (sheepish) but I assume you're removing the little basil/cilantro/etc. seeds and replacing them with the seeds for our favorite herb, right?
There are no dumb questions...but this is close. Yes, some herb seeds are much smaller than others so you have to make sure you get them all.

yea i will be getting that as well, but the other ones do work as well if you dont have the cash upfront for it when you get the main unit

No doubt. One thing I like about the master gardener kit is the pod holders are two pieces that break apart so they can be reused.

Thanks- not such an airhead, I promise. I'm asking because I'm trying to figure out whether to use the AG and what components to purchase. Upon reviewing the information on the site, the Master Gardener kit seemed to have very small sponges compared to the seed kit sponges for basil, tomatoes, etc.; presumably, this is because it's only supposed to be for starting seedlings to transplant in the garden. Have you been successfull growing larger plants in what look like those little seedling sponges? I appreciate the insight- I want to be certain of what I need (and what is successful) before laying out the cash and potentially having to spend money on return shipping if I'm making an incorrect assumption.

i believe you use those sponges the whole way through, you just need to figure out, do you want to buy a pre fabbed machine or build your own for less? i built my own to begin with, but sold it before i could use it then bought the AG just to try it out, if it doesnt suit my needs im sure it would be great for vegging and cloning, then just make a new DWC setup to flower. with the AG you will need to get extra lights and different nutes and a figure 8 power cord for the lights and a timer so when you want to you can go 12/12 its as easy as flipping a switch :-)

The sponges are the same size in the master gardener kit and the kit that comes with the AG. If you use the ones that come with the AG you'll have to peel off the covers and scrape out the seeds and then put them back in and reattach the covers with a little elmers glue. No big deal. It comes with six preseeded pods.

i didnt even need to remove the covers, the sponges kinda just popped out the holes on top.
then the covers fell off like 3 days later , i just replaced them with some duct tape

This is a pretty badas thread. I agree the aerogarden is somewhat a beginners tool, but a tool none the less. I'm growing right now for somewhere around prob 5 or so weeks. I originally had 7 germinated seeds in the aerogarden. One of them died off before really going anywhere at all. So I had six plants growing. Within a week of flowering I had one male that I cut. And of my five left, all five are females. I was fucking blown away! I didnt even expect to get three females, let alone 5! I'm gonna be strapped for room. All foxfarm nut.'s. Grow Big, Big Bloom, and Tiger Bloom. It's coming super good.

Okay, sorry to dump on anyone who might be reading. Thanks and any help appreciated.

Damn if your at 5 weeks they should be big and you should have flowered by now....if not I would top those plants and then go to flower....

Just some thoughts and ideas

Peace

Yep that will work... But just some more info.... I used straight up spring water in my aerogarden.. I never checked my ph nor did I ever empty the res.. I added a air stone . and I grew 4 great plants net wt 2 dry oz .. using the aerogarden nutes for tomatoes

One of the ladies is definitely Indica, and she sprouted about a week ahead of her sibling who indicated Sativa by growing high and fast. The other day, when I went to raise the light another few inches to accommodate my tall plant, the light cam crashing down on the top of the Sativa and cracked the top Cola's stem. In great sadness, I removed the top cola and some surrounding stems.

Will this kill it?
I dropped my light onto one of my plants, the stem gave an audible POP and i almost broke into tears.... i didnt touch a thing, just let it sit for a few days and other then looking like it needs a neck brace or serious chiropractic adjustments everything seems to be growing just fine, as a matter of fact today there seemed to be twice as many pistils as there were yesterday.

you stumbled onto something called fimming.

what happens is you lightly squeeze a stem just below a bud site. carefully roll and squeeze until your feel the cells break. the plant will hang over at that point, but in a couple of days will repair itself and grow stronger.

thats not quite what u did but it seems to have had a similar effect.

if you have done this much thinking you should save your money and build your own.

basically, you need an area. a suitable container with cover. an air pump and stone. some hydro nutes. rockwool and net pots. some lights.

thats it. you lights will cost the most. have seen complete grows with CFL only. i found 42w at walmart the other day. 125w equivalent. 8000+lumens

but if your lazy, get the AG then you will see how simple it is. then you can build your own and clone/veg mothers in the AG.

they running. have them tied down at the moment and i just cleaned my res tank. trimmed some roots as well. looking for them to recoup and start to really form some buds.

got a lot of sites budding now on three females. they are 24-30 inches in hieght but i have them tied down to half that. lots of small compact buds with alot of white hairs. no real developement as of late. hoping they stressed from res change and root trim.

trying to have patience. loooking to start my cambodian mushrooms,
