i have been able to start my aero for the first time. last year i tested it and cloned a bunch of spearmint.
this year i started four seeds early, thinking only one or two would sprout. did the paper towel method. they all four sprouted, overnight at that. crazy.
i moved them directly from paper towel into two inch neoprene pucks. I left them in the paper towel for 24 hours after appearance of the taproot. which was exactly 24 hours after placing in paper towel.
i was worried that i would hurt them, or that the neoprene would be too difficult for them to grow through.
i was worried for no reason, these little buggers are getting after it. i was gonna use rockwool because i was scared to hurt the tiny little sprouts. i don't want to use rockwool. i want a media free aero grow. and apparently it's gonna work ok. i planned last year to take a couple cuttings and go media free from there but it just didn't happen. and this year, i was gonna go ahead and use just a rockwool starter and then move on to
grow stones but i had already done this with cucumbers the week before. I had a bunch of those sprout so i tried it both ways, rockwool and straight into a two inch puck and they are all doing just fine.
one thing i did to the pucks before putting in the sprouts, don't know if it's necessary or if it helped or not but, i opened the puck and put in a pencil and let it sit for a while and kinda take shape, so it wouldn't be so tight on the sprout.
that may be an unfounded fear, after all, plants sprout through asphalt and concrete and roots and shoots and all kinds of plant growth destroys all sorts of manmade structures.
i can't wait. this aero is already impressing the hell out of me. it impressed me when i researched it and i have been working towards it for a long time. i built all mine out of five gal buckets for movability and just my setup demands it.
