Aerogarden Osiris Fem

This is our first grow in our new apartment...we're going to try and not kill our plant this time!

We're about a week in today. We are using distilled water with a few drops of H2O2 and added 1mL of nutes for the first time yesterday. We turn the lights off for about 8 hours at night. The water temp is hovering around 80...hopefully we can figure out how to cool it off. The pH has been great so far. The plant is getting very tall, but the leaves are still pretty tiny.

I've tried an aerogarden once before and it was working well, but unfortunately was not able to see the grow all the way through due to the fact that I was moving to a different country. Had to slice em and sell the aerogarden unit, worst case... but I'm looking forward to seeing this grow all the way to the end result. Best of luck!

What kind of light are you using? It's stretching for light. Get your light closer.

It is very important to get your water temp down under 75f and keep it there. If not, you will have problems.

I'm just using the Aerogarden light right now. We have more powerful lights for later on. I just lowered the light as far as it will go, it's about 8 inches above the top of the plant now. Also, I just got some ice packs from the grocery store and am planning to put them in the water. Is it possible to make the water too cold? Thanks for your tips! :)

Apologies. I am not familiar with the aerogarden kit light. Is it fluorescent? If so, you can place it much closer... like within two inches. If that light can't go any lower, get a small cfl coil and get creative. More light is always better. And see if you can't enclose that contraption... I would find the largest cardboard box I can find, spray paint the inside white, and stick the whole thingamabob in there. Very easy to make a mini suction system with two computer fans.

Test the heat of the bulb. Most fluoros are cool enough to touch.

It is possible to make the water too cold. I would say if you drop below 60f you're in the danger zone. Ideal is 65-70f... but do try to keep it under 75f. If there are times that it exceeds 75f, make sure it doesn't stay in that range for long periods of time and you should be okay.. If your res is small, just get those re-freezable plastic jobs or use frozen gatorade bottles. Gatorade bottles are good because they're sturdy and suitable for re-freezing multiple times.

Edit:
And dig that crazy toothpick pyramid. Do you believe in Ancient Aliens? :D I do.

Oh, yes it is florescent. Unfortunately it doesn't go any lower than it is right now...the ice pack lowered it to about 70! Thanks again for this info.

Excellent. Keep the water cool. Your plant will be much happier.
And you're welcome.

I don't know if you can tell from this picture, but the leaves are getting bigger and two new baby leaves are starting! The pH is staying around 6.5 :) and the temp is hovering at 70! Hooray!

are you giving it a gentle breeze with a small fan near by? That will help the plant absorb the co2 in the air resulting in a thicker stem. A very gentle quiver in the seedling is all you want to see. Be gentle.

Oh, I hadn't even thought of that. I'm off to get a fan! The stalk is definitely still pretty wispy looking.
