Hey kbfl

Umm i think n8wi is right, im not really planning on buying a book about this shit half the fun is finding this stuff out for yourself. you know, trial and error, its what makes growing fun i'm not in it for the money this simply keeps me occupied.

thanks for the offer but no thanks, i would rather put a couple of hours into reading free info than buying a book that tells me everything.

But if either of you have a suggestion about my air pump please hit me up, i'm all ears.

Sorry for the lapse there...

You will need an airstone as well... the smaller the bubbles the better off you are...

An even distribution of the bubbles is not nearly as important as the size of the bubbles...

They actually make horticultural airstones that pump out very small bubbles, but the stuff you would use for an aquarium is sufficient...

Keep in mind that the air pump will need to run 24/7...

Sorry to be a pin in the ass gypsy, im just a poor noob lookin for some home grown bud :)
but i really need to know, is it noisy? because i have the setup in my room and the less noise the better, especially if it needs to run 24/7.

But you can use different ones too... it seems like you got the idea...

You can get these at WM or any pet shop...1 pump and 1 airstone should be between $10 and $20 depending on what you get...

If you are careful not to block the air, and not to get too hot and burn the motor, you can actually fut pumps and (cage) fans inside of a box with foam walls... it will muffle the sound a lot!!!

seriously just flush the system fill with an average ph sort of water (between 6-7) and just dont give any nutes for a while. I know the PH isnt ideal for growing but i find that if u keep changing it and shit the plants just go beserk. Unfortunately from what i see the leaves dont ever get better, but my new leaves are looking awesome, my biggest plant is kicking along.

The best advice to come from my mouth is just flush and stop feeding. It takes allot of patients, because its so tempting just to change the water and hope for a result but the bottom line is with my plants once i stopped feeding them they got better.

Now for all i know (and i am surely no expert) it could be a disease or deficiancy and then i've got no idea but for now just dont feed them till your newest leaves look good and then start slow.

It worked for me and i really hope it helps

The pH can cause all sorts of deficiencies if it is too high. A lot of hydro-ers tend to run their pH at about 5.5-6.0 which is a bit lower than soil growers. Not sure why, you would have to ask them about that.

Another way with the Aerogarden is to run it on the 24/7 cycle and then using a timer, set the whole thing to 18 on 6 off (assuming the roots are in the water).

That will cut down the amount of nutes getting squirted around. But the airstone is a good fix.

A nebulizer might be fun to play with as well if you had the time to experiment. You could mount one inside the AG. Make a sort of pseudo foggoponic aerogarden upgrade. I would assume you would have to run the water level at about half full, and regulate the nutes a bit more because that nebulized fog is real fine and delivered into the roots in a format that will cause the fastest uptake of nutrients.

The reason Hydro Growers grow with a 5.5-6.0 ph vs the 6-7 you would want with soil growers is that we want to prevent root rot and other diseases associated with hydro or aero grows. A lower ph doesn't hurt the plants root systems, it only makes the environment for undesirable growth less happy. Also, if you want to add time to your lights beyond 18/6 to further the photosynthesis process and allow for faster repair don't go beyond 21/3. The reason is that durring the "dark" or "night" phase, the plant is using ALL its energy to grow, durring the day it splits between photosynthesis (energy production) and growth/consumption.

If you stick with a 21/3 cycle, your plant will begin to repair itself better than an 18/6 or 24/0 alone can give. Absolutely don't nute until the first two weeks if you are having trouble with growing early on. Generally at this you should move to the Fox Farm Nutes "Grow Big", "Big Bloom", and "Tiger Bloom" at 1/2 strength for the third week, and full strenght from then on. I'm still reletively new to this but I have read probably 5000+ pages/posts in books and the internet. Also, if I have read that many people have nute burns and spots on their plants in the first two weeks, this is normal and the only way to avoid is to ensure you don't use nutes until later and to "ween" your plant on to them. I myself tried to nute at seedlings with 1/4 strength and although I am having a successfull grow so far, I had some problems in the first two weeks and lost one of my seedlings. Good luck, my suggestion is to flush your system, add distilled water to ensure there is no chlorine or other chems that bottled water and the water utilities use get in your plant, if you are having serious nute burns don't add nutes for at least a week (maybe a week and a half) so your plants can repair and get themselves situated. Marijuana plants are sturdy, you can really mess them up at almost any stage and repair the dmg if you go slow and be nice to them.

hey how did you get that long air stone to fit, i had one like that but it wouldnt fit good so i just used a smaller one.bongsmilie
