Aerogarden Spacesaver 6 & Clones

Hi there,

This is my first post. I've recently started reading the forum and I'm finding a lot of useful information. I'm trying to find more information about using the aerogarden with clones. If anyone can recommend any threads, I would greatly appreciate it. I did a search, but clone is such a frequently used word, it's hard to find useful information without a lot of wading, which I'm trying to do, but hoped I could get some information faster by posting these questions.

I am being given an Aerogarden Spacesaver 6 by a friend who used to use it for indoor cooking herbs, but she's moving to Europe and can't take it, so I'm getting it :)

As it won't have any of it's original sponges, can anyone answer the following please:

1) What can I use instead? Will any sponge do? I'm thinking something I can get from a grocery store maybe? Perhaps floral foam which I could cut into shape?

2) What rooting compound works best with the aerogarden? Surely any rooting powder or gel just gets washed off?

3) If I grow the clones in the aerogarden to the point that they are sprouting roots. Can I then put them into soil or will they have to stay in the aerogarden their entire lifespan?

Thanks!

Well, I have no idea where to find those in this city, lol.

I know a place that sells Oasis Foam for floral arrangements, would that work?

If they sell it at Canadian Tire, I can use that, so anything to recommend from their inventory?

OK, I've gotten the Space Saver 6 and I'm a little confused. Which is the best setting to use? The posts I've read suggest putting it on tomato setting, but that must be a different version of the Aerogarden. This has settings for Herbs, Flowers, Live Plants, Vegetables and Salad Greens. Is there a post that mentions how long the lights for each setting last and what aeration it supplies?

just put it on the salad greens setting its basically the same tomato setting and just order the refill pack online from areogarden.com and buy some of the nutrient tabs from them as well and you might wanna add a couple of exta CFL's from your local walmart or whatever you guys have haha the settings on salad greens is 17 and 7 i believe

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately I can't order anything from the 'net as I don't have a credit card anymore *sigh*.

That's why I was looking into a viable alternative.

Would any other form of sponge work? Or would that oasis foam?

Anyone know about the survival rates of clones started off in the Aerogarden once transfered into soil?

Thanks!
