aerogarden week 2 from seed, plants dying? [pics]

hopefully someone can help me. plants are 13 days old, they were looking great the first week, but growth has slowed down considerably and leaves are now turning yellow. I've got an airstone in the res but that doesnt seem to be helping.

I'm using flora nova nutes (2.5ml in the gallon). I've been keeping the PH around 5.8. I've also added neem oil to try and prevent root rot as the temps around here are hot. The res has been cleaned and new water was added 2 days ago with the 2.5ml of flora nova grow.

any ideas?

Personally i never add nutes until they are at least 3 weeks old. So over nuting can be your problem. If you want, try flushing them out with water that doesn't contain nutes until you get to that third week. Could help exponentially.

The third set of leaves are there so you should be fine adding nutes. I have had a few that did this in a rubbermaid aero setup. Check the roots and let me know if its just a few larger roots or if there are smaller hairlike roots.

the roots have actually be causing some problems... the largest root just fell off after week 1. The plant has grown since then and started new smaller roots which look a few thicker shorter roots now. The roots are brown but I've read that flora nutes stain the roots brown. Not sure if it is root rot or not. I added neem oil about a week ago to fight any potential root rot.

thanks for the help so far btw guys

you see how the root is fat at the top and skinny and almost clear at the bottom? Your root system is dead and are just retaining water. The plant will die, you could try to snip its stem at a angle and try to use take root or another rooting powder but I have not had success with such young plants. My suggestion for your next grow is to start them off in soil for a month then transfer them to the netcup. I have even buried them in the netcup and let them grow in soil to start then flushed the soil off the roots and it worked very well with minimal shock. I'm sorry about your plant.

so it seems there is a lot of mold and gunk in the root system. The aerogarden sponges are covered in mold. I decided the only way these plants are going to live is if i get them in something else. So i've pulled them from the sponges trying to keep as many roots as I could. Pics are below. They seem very save-able, I just need to do it right.

so:
should I cut the dead leaves off?
I have rockwool and Hydroton Rocks. I'd like to get them back in the aerogarden. Should I put them in rockwool or hydroton rocks? What is the best way for survival? Should I add nutes to the water or have then in all natural water for a while?

i was thinking bout going with AG... but i see alot of cats having problems with it...so i went with soil ...FYI i heard u can fit them 2 inch rockwool cubes in there i would think it be better and not use nutes for the first 2 weeks of your seedlings life....
