It's the rootball. The plant can tolerate losing maybe 1/3 of the rootball. But if it's lost a bunch of the fine hair roots and there's nothing left except the main tap root then I would give it some mycorrhizae and start misting it to support it until it regrows those roots.

Ferrets are a blast, ain't they?

I couldn't say without watching the plant. A couple of days if the roots are really messed up, at most.

Are you misting the plant? Maybe you could put a humidity dome over it (make one out of a plastic bottle or something).

cover with a plastic water bottle "clear" cut bottom off and mist the inside of bottle....leave lid on.lift it off cpl times a day to get fresh air, mist inside of bottle as needed...... good luck....

Just a little bit, because you don't want it to get too humid in there and promote mold or rot.

Is it still with you?

Ok, my very last idea, and this is something I've never done (because I've never had a ferret attack a plant on me) is this: Just cut the roots off completely and treat it like a clone. Do you know anything about cloning?

Yet another case for a cloning forum, I think it would really be helpful.

Ok, in brief what I've done (and this is with a plant that's already doing well, and already flowering).

Rooting hormone
Peat pots (I actually started with.. ok, toilet paper rolls that I cut in half and filled with soil  but it worked!) or soil with lots of sand or perlite mixed in it (it needs to drain REALLY well and be easy for new roots to grow into)
Something that will act as a humidity dome to keep humidity high.

What I would do is trim off all but the top sets of leaves, and then trim those in about half. You need to do this so the plant doesn't spend energy trying to grow the leaves but instead growing roots.

Cut the stem at a node so that you've got about three or four nodes above the peat pot or soil or whatever you use. 45degree angle.
Dip in rooting hormone, tap off excess (if you're using powder).
Place in rooting medium, ensuring that is also very moist, but not dripping wet.
Mist the plant and put under the dome. You'll need to open the dome at least a couple of times a day so it doesn't rot and to prevent mildew.

There are many, MANY methods for cloning, this is what I did because I live in a remote area with pisspoor shopping in town and I haven't got a lot of extra scratch and wanted to clone my girls. If you do a search on cloning and check the GrowFAQs you'll find a lot more information.

At this point it's worth a try I think.

Dude, what the fuck is a ferret doing running wild around your plant.

I have a two year old (human that is) and I wouldn't trust em to be anywhere near my plants unattended.

Live and learn, as they say.

He, she needs food to make it. It was young and that sucks brother. Good luck waking her up. Only time will tell.
