Air cool tubes heat

Hi, I have a quick question for anyone who as air cool tubes, I have a 6 inch vortex that splits in a Y to vent 4x 400watt. The tubes are very cool on the extremes of the tube and the middle of the tube is very warm I can only put my hands there for 3-4 seconds before It starts feeling real hot. Where the bulb ends it is very cool I can leave my hands there for one hour if I want to. Is this normal or should I be able to touch the whole air cool tube for one hour ?

dont think it matters as long as your temps are where u want them one thing i will say is DO NOT turn the lights on before youv conected them up and the fan is pulling air thru them, i made that mistake just to see the light, had a mh 600w in one of em and it cracked the glass in about 15 to 20 seconds

hi i would think by the sounds of it that the hot spot is the main element in the bulb and will allways be hotter, last grow i had cool tubes and was told that to get really cool you need a 500 cfm fan as if you go over 3 mtre of ducting the cfm drops on the fan, but saying that im now useing powerplant aero and they have 250 cfm each and are great, as long as temps are ok and your not getting heat stress id just go with it,

your cooling 1600w's with one 6"fan? that right there should be changed to a 8" fan or use two 6" but one 8"....

I have a cool tube with a 600w in it and it gets cool enough to LICK the glass yes lick thats how cool my cool tube can get. i can push it down into the canopy if i want its that cool....i use 1 6" fan to cool 1 600w light..... also like that other guy said if your temps are where you want and the socket isnt getting hot enough to be a danger than it dosent matter....

This should work unless your pulling warm air in? I run 4 1000w 6" CT with a 6" fan and don't have any issues. Yes it is warmer the closer you get to the bulb but would not burn me. I also run 4 8" 1000w with one 8" fan and 2 4" outlets on sealed hoods with a 4" vortex. I have no heat problems ever. My outside temperatures go from-40 to 95+.

By the way I would worry more about the temperature at the tops of your plants than at the light. If you purchased a good cool tube it is tempered glass and will not break due to heat. Cheap ones will that's why their cheap. I only buy ones made in Germany, their standards are higher and the glass thicker, I pay 105$ for them.

Put your hand on top of the plant directly under the hot spot, can you keep it there if not move the light up.

you run 4 1000w's on 1 6'"fan? wow i wouldnt have thought that would do the job good enough.... what are you ambient temps compared to the room temps with your 1000w and one fan?

Well one 6 inch to cool 1600watt (4x400w) is enough like woodsmaneh said. I got the bulb to be touchable right under the hotspot and its cooler now and my temp are lower. What I had to do is leave my grow room door open crack a window open in the next room and the fan those the rest I guess. My temps with lights on are 27 to 28 and I will be using c02 so thats just fine.

My room temp runs max of 93 and low of 76, I do get spikes in the heat of the summer 98 but that happens maybe twice. The other thing is I use pipe where ever I can and limit the 90's in the run. I pull cool/cold air from under a crawl space and vent outside.

Your idea of acceptable temps dffers from mine if i had temps like that i would adjust my grow tell i fixed that......Thats why i use an 8" fan for 1 1000w light my temps never get above 82 degrees.... If i had 4 1000ws theres NO way id run a smaller fan especialy since you just told me how hot yours gets and i curtinly wouldnt adivse people to do the same...... But im always willing to hear people out if had told me your temps never get above 85 id say " huh really? i wouldnt have thought, i guess you can use that many lights on one 6" fan good to know"

It doesnt get hot anymore Because I have some fresh air cooling it now. Thank's for the help. And yes you can cool 4x400watts with one 6 inch vortex aslong as the ambient air your grabbing is under 73f you will be fine. your temp in your grow room should be about 80f in a 8x8x7 grow tent.

i agree that temps shouldnt normally be allowed to go up, but isnt it true that if using co2 that you can run higher?? though id still try to get a bigger fan!!!

I am using c02 because I cant grab air from outside. I got a c02 boost for free i'm gonna try it. I still have my tank too just gonna use the c02 boost cause its there... I dont install controllers and all that on my tank. a couple times a day i go in open the tank for a few seconds let the fan push it thru the room and done... works just fine i seen an amazing difference.
