air pots are the real deal i moved my girls from half litre normal pots into 6 litre air pots just over a week ago and the plant has gone crazy, i opened the air pot to see what the root development was like............... all i can say is wow in 1 week the roots had exploded i have never seen anything like it. i am not sure about lowryders specifically but i can assure you they are 10 times better for any strain or even any plant simply amazing

the boom was probably alot to do with the fact that you increased the size of the pot more then the fact your now using air pots; they may of benefited in some ways but air pots usually are really good when the waterer over waters often. a plant benefits from a lack of air also from having air; controls the stretching of roots
also the chin do you have one hand or something your typing is terrible

i want some of these. i watched a video on them and was impressed. i haven't looked up the price yet. anyone know prices on a few sizes

i know you get a boom in roots when you repot but i have repotted alot of times before with normal pots and the difference is overwhelming and clear to see. as for prices a 20 litre pot is 6.90 20 litre= 4.3 gallons

from experience and multiple trials of various pots, airpots are great compared to standard plastic pots. side-by-side comparisons using 4 different strains (indica-dom and sativa dom) showed a difference in rootmass, vegetative growth (mass and speed) and final end weight. not sure about autoflowers, but when I grew em out years ago the key I found was in letting the seedling grow in a deeper pot (no transplanting, use a deep 4-5gal from the start) so that it's taproot can grow fast and straight down. my 24cents

BTW: instead of buying them, you can certainly make your own. I suggest using the pond liner fabric from home de-pot. it is strong and sturdy enough to move a plant around without it ripping, it sews easily and is washable several times for re-use. when sewing em, make sure to strong poly thread, cotton breaks down after 1-2 grows and you have to re-sew them.
I think people should just buy the pots, they're actually pretty cheap from the right website don't require much assembly. They are also made out of recycled materials already which homemade versions might not be, and come with plastic screws to hold them together that will last as long as the pot (forever). It can also be difficult to find material with a similar cone shape to help guide roots to the air holes and keep them from hitting the walls and spiraling around.
A home made pot poked full of holes is still better than a normal pot, but its much easier and not much more expensive to just buy these and already have them as good as they can be. I got mine from www.growers-inc.com They were the cheapest supplier in the US a year ago, but I don't know if that is still true.

im with you on that one jdizzle just buy them there is no way a diy job would be half as good or work half as well.there are other types of airpot at the store where i got mine one was a type of breathable bag the other a 20litre basket pot and the feed back from these 2 from the store was next to none compared to the feed back on the flat pack pots i recived.a diy job on the bag or the basket no prob but not a hope on the flat pack ones with the hundreds of pushed out cones.
Smart Pots are a bag version of Airpots and have a good reputation. I decided to go with Air Pots though because they will last longer, are easier to reuse and clean, and may even work better (easier air flow to roots?). I imagine the growing medium would shift around less when moving around solid pots than bags.
For anyone interested in airpots I would recommened starting with party cups and transplanting into .8 gallon air pots for SOG or at least 2 gallon for any other method

It seems to me, the only difference between a five gallon bucket w/holesdrilled down the lower half and that plastic pineapple thing is shape, and I'm sure the bucket is much sturdier as you do not have to assemble it. How can the shape affect the performance? Black buckets are like 4-5$ a piece whats the price on those things again?
Well the cone shape of the air pots is supposed to help guide roots towards the air holes. If you just drill simply holes in a regular bucket you will get some of the same root pruning but you will definitely not do as well as you would have with the cone shape stuff. Air pots since they have the cone shape actually lock into each other and you simply add a couple of these little green screw they give you and you won't ever have to worry about them bursting open. They can almost hold themselves together just from the cones interlocking alone. Its also nice for storage that you can simply unroll them and lay them flat. And when transplanting you simply pull the wall away from teh root mass, you don't have to worry about carefully sliding the plant out you just unwrap it!

My next grow will be strictly airpots only. My local hydro shop sells them and actually has identical plants in a side by side comparison. the airpot plant was atleast 30% bigger in size.
anyways, do you guys use the rubber additive/medium to help retain water? its $9.99 at my hyrdo shop and I'm going to purchase a container tomorrow. I know the guy there pretty darn well, and he said it can help retain water at double the rate than w/o them.
-also he said a 3.6 gallon airpot will outperform a normal 5 gallon pot.
3.6 gallon runs like $8.29 per pot.
